Christian radio host Doc Gallagher gets 3 life prison terms for bilking listeners out of millions of dollars

A Texas radio host was sentenced to three life prison terms Monday for a Ponzi scheme in which he bilked elderly listeners out of millions of dollars. William Neil "Doc" Gallagher also got a 30-year prison sentence.

The sentencing came after more than a dozen senior victims testified during a three-hour court hearing about losing anywhere from $50,000 to $600,000 invested in the Gallagher Financial Group. Some said they had to sell their homes, borrow money from their children or take part-time jobs to supplement their Social Security benefits.

Gallagher, 80, and his Gallagher Financial Group advertised on Christian radio with the tagline, "See you in church on Sunday." He promoted his investment business in books, such as "Jesus Christ, Money Master," and on Christian radio broadcasts.

The list of televangelists, Christian radio hosts and preachers who've taken their "flocks" for untold millions is staggering. Joel Osteen has an obscenely large and ornate mansion and at least one private jet, there for a while the IRS was going after handfuls of TV preachers for one reason or another, and there was the fairly well-publicized story of Robert Tilton who's "Success-N-Life" TV program aired on every TV market in the USA, where he spent upwards of 85% of his airtime begging for money and hawking stuff to buy, and which brought in upwards of $80M per year - until an expose by one of the major networks exposed him and his practices, other investigations were conducted and he was eventually yanked off the air. Later, he went on to other "preaching" work, where he bilked others who were gullible enough to buy into his message and send him $$$, even after he'd been exposed previously.

Funny enough, the same Evangelical Christians who follow these people and somewhat blindly send them their money, are some of the same who hang on every word Donald Trump and his ilk tell them to believe. Maybe they're weaker minded folks overall who need to be told what to think and believe, are unable or don't care to think and research things on their own, and they blindly follow a particular message if it seems to make logical sense to them?
