Christiane Amanpour out at "This Week"; Will host CNNI show

ABC announced today that Christiane Amanpour will be relieved of her duties as host for ABC's "This Week."

She will continue to work for ABC News in an arrangement that is apparently similar to the one CNN and CBS have Re: Anderson Cooper. Amanpour will host specials and file reports for ABC's programs.

But Amanpour's primary job will send her back to CNN International, where she is going to be given a nightly program. No start date or time slot was announced.

George Stephanopoulos will take over "This Week" on an interim basis.

I think ABC needs to replace Amanpour with Jake Tapper. Tapper happens to be a well-seasoned reporter who knows Washington so very well. I think he'll be getting This Week's job as its host and moderator-permanently.

Agreed. Tapper was the best of the substitute hosts between Stephanopoulos's departure and Amanpour's arrival.

It's too bad about Christiane, IMO. She's a first rate reporter, but a fish out of water on a Sunday morning chat show. I have to give her credit, though - she had improved a lot over the last few months,

Christiane Amanpour is way better on international news reporting than she is on Washington Politics. Well if Christiane Amanpour is sent to TMZ or HLN and is assigned to confront celebrities then you know that TV News is dead.

I think it is a good thing for her. She gets to fulfill the remainder of her contract with ABC News while doing what her passion is international affairs at CNNi.

As person, you have to know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em, and she folded on it to do what she wants to do. It's a surprise that she held out as long as she did (nearly 18 months) in the spot. There is no point of her or others being miserable doing something she doesn't want to do in the long run. Jake Tapper should get the permanent spot unless they want to double up on George S or force him to leave GMA.

Want to force him to leave? When they've narrowed the gap with Today to the closest margin in years? Not likely.

The one constant in “This Week” is George Will - he who, even as he decries other people’s entitlements, appears entitled to a permanent seat at the round table, with only a very occasional exception. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a major say the make-up of the panel (which is always stacked to the right) and maybe even in who is hired and fired as host.
