Christmas At Our House with Sonny Melendez radio show

Does anyone remember this 12 hour Christmas show that WRAL ran in the early 80s? If so whatever happened to it and is there anything similar to it or a different incarnation of it around today. I have two cassettes with songs from it and a few outtakes of Sonny, but it would be interesting to get the whole show. Does anyone have it archived in your library?

Thanks for the snippetts of the show.Sonny had a smooth delivery..

Allen

Allen,

You're welcome. Yes he did. I liked the special segments of Christmas traditions around the world and other stories of how we got to our "modern" Christmas traditions like the story of the yule log.

WOW! I have been looking high and low for this online for the past few years, and all of a sudden in a Google/Yahoo search, your post came up!

It was a Christmas Eve tradition for my brother and I to listen to this all night long. And yes, I remember the discussion about the Yule Log and how it's supposed to be placed under your bed if my memory serves me correctly.

A few years ago, I e-mailed Sonny regarding Christmas at Our House, and that he wasn't sure where the original tapes of this were. He did give me the name of another guy who supposedly owned the rights to the program at the time, but I never got a response.

I just signed up on this site and created an account so that I could reply.

So many memories of Christmas At Our House. It ran on a local radio station here in Northern Michigan on Christmas Eve starting at 5:00 PM and going through Christmas Day. As a kid, I remember hearing "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" during the program, and it has become my favorite Christmas song... all because of "Christmas At Our House."

Do you still have the cassettes? I noticed your post was from last year.

Yes I do still have the cassettes and would be glad to send you a copy. Just PM me and we can work out the details. I'm glad to know that somewhere out there are the original tapes of the show. Maybe someone could put them on CDs and sell it as a "Radio Classic". But I guess the copyrights are a big hurdle. Great Christmas memories though.

I see this is an old topic, but felt compelled to write anyway. For the hell of it I just googled "Sonny Melendez Christmas" and it brought me to the R-I site.

Funny, since I post here often, predominately in the Smooth Jazz subject.

I can recall vividly this program being broadcast while visiting a good friend of mine. I believe it was aired on WHMP Northhampton MA around 30 years ago.

We were sitting out on the porch getting hammered or stoned or both...but in the background I heard probably the best Xmas music I ever heard....a lot of the classic stuff I grew up with, especially the instrumentals.

Then I heard Sonny Melendez. He was appaarently the host and it had to be syndicated since I recalled hearing Sonny fill in for Kasey Kasem AT40 several years before.

I have searched often to see if anyone else remembered this program, because it was truly tremendous.

I think of it often, especially when the holidays roll around.

It's amazing someone else actually still remembers it.

Although I only heard it air once, and only for a few hours...it still remains a great moment of mine as I always remember how wonderful the music sounded that Saturday afternoon so long ago.

OT: Apologize for the promotion, but I am affiliated with the website "wavjazz.net". We will be broadcasting a lot of the same music featured on the Sonny Melendez Christmas Show beginning on Christmas Eve for 48 straight hours.

Just the classics and mostly instrumentals.
Thanks for reading.

Mark

I've searched high and low for this program somewhere on the Internet and haven't had any luck. Has anyone else been able to find a recording of this program over the past few years since this thread was updated?

I have a lot of fond family memories connected to this program from growing up in the 90's and would really like to hear it again.
