Christmas Music:WODS vs WMJX Who is doing a better job?

I know some of You don't like Christmas music, but for those who do I am wondering Your opinion of who is doing the better job.
I find WMJX is doing the better job,it seems they are not playing any of the foolish silly songs like "Grandma got run over by a reindeer"(WODS has)so they get my vote.

WMJX is doing a more "professional" job at creating music for the dentist's office, but it's not "fun" to listen to. I mean, there's just too much Kenny G and Vince Gueraldi to capture the excitement of the holiday season.

WODS is more lively, and much better, although they do seem to skew a lot toward Christmas "oldies" for obvious reasons. That's not to say there's no music from 1980 and on, but the mix is clearly older.

The playlists on WSRS and WWLI are considerably better, mixing in modern tunes with Christmas classics. WSNE isn't doing too bad either. But personally, I think that WMJX and WODS could be doing a better job.

WODS is fine but Magic sounds a tad better.

My dentist has had XM for at least 2 years. He used to run WMJX
but probably all the ads and constant repetition finally got to him
and his staff. Remember, an average patient is there only for thirty
minutes to an hour. The dentist and staff are there all day. Same
old thing on AC radio gets pretty painful after a while.

WSRS: like it. Good mix. Probably the best in earshot.

WODS: Pretty good..although I'm not interested in hearing newer versions of holiday songs on a station where I tune in for "older stuff" in the first place!

Lite-105: Good..but could use a little more up-tempo to keep me from nodding off at the wheel.

WMJX: Okay..but as a previous poster said, it's a little too generic sounding. Playing the Chimpunks once in awhile won't kill you.

WSNE: Forget it. I'd rather listen to paint dry.

While Magic is being repetitive I have been favoring them over Oldies 103.3. It seems when I tune into Oldies they are playing something that I am not all that crazy about at all.

I believe that Magic has given the Chipmunks at least one spin since I have tuned in.

Has WODS or WMJX played Adam Sandler's Hanukkaha Song?

Not sure about WODS or WMJX, but 93.3 WSNE has played it a few times.

I have not heard it on WMJX.

It's a 'white' Christmas

I love Christmas music. But there is a lot more to the world of Christmas music than what you hear on the 'All Christmas Music All the Time' stations.
The stuff they play is aimed at middle aged housewives.

Nothing ethnic (if you think Dominic the Donkey is ethnic, you don't know anything about Italian), nothing in a foreign language. Rarely anything too soulful. Not even a good Pavorotti rendition of a carol.

What's great about Christmas music is that the one traditional form of music that lots of people embrace. But commercial radio whitewashes it.

There is tons and tons of great, classic R & B Christmas stuff, like Otis Redding, Fats Domino, Hank Ballard, Motown stuff, do-wop, etc? Is WODS playing any of that stuff? I like "Rockin Around The Christmas Tree", too, but 15 times a day on the same station?

As I said before, there is a lot more to Christmas music than what you hear on the so-called all-Christmas music stations. Most Christmas music that exists isn't even touched by these stations. I'm a Christian, when I think of Christmas music, I think of the songs we sing in church......almost none of which you will hear on one of these stations, even when done by a popular artist. I also think of classic, ethnic and foreign language songs, which are also too much for suburban white middle aged female listeners to handle.

I'm glad they Otis Redding......do they play the Winans? Do they play Yolanda Adams? She's done some great Christmas music as well....or maybe she has just a little bit too much soul for Christmas stations.

They're playing some of it, though I wouldn't mind more.

I've only barely hit their button for a few seconds at a time since they went Christmas, but one of the times in the afternoon they were playing "Back Door Santa" by Clarence Carter (best known for his hits "Slip Away" and "Patches"), that's mid-60's soul.

And as much as it's overplayed at this time, I like the doo-wop vocals on The Drifters version of "White Christmas" from the 50's, which they're also playing.

Interesting to see someone mention Clarence Carter. I'm familiar with "Patches". When ever I hear his material on the radio or at an event, it's usually "Strokin'" which is playing. Don't know much about him, or even when that song came out.

"Strokin'" was from the mid-80's. A disco tune popular with party/event crowds for the obvious innuendo.

"Patches" was a #4 national hit in 1970, and "Slip Away" was a #6 hit in 1968 (that was the first time I heard him). Those two may be still occasionally played on some oldies stations. "Too Weak To Fight" was a #13 hit in 1968, following "Slip Away".

He had a number of smaller hits from the 60's through the 80's that were mainly played on R&B stations.

Re: Clarence Carter

I play "Strokin'" every once in awhile, and I do know when to fade it down
for a moment.
(he says, "oooh, (poop), Clarence Carter" at one point

Oh really?

They had Magic on at my work today...do you hear any of these in Church?

-What Child is This?
-Joy to the World
-O Holy Night
-Angels we have heard on high
-God Rest Ye....
-Silent Night
-Adeste Fideles
-Do you hear what I hear
-Hark the Herald Angels...
-The First Noel

These are just the ones I heard since your post.

It seems like you can't please everyone when it comes to Chirstmas music.

For real or imagines reasons.

Or older black urban males for that matter.

Or young hispanics.

What's your point? Play ethnic music?
