Chuck Lorre talks to TV Guide about "Two and A Half Men", Charlie Sheen drama

Re: Chuck Lorre talks to TV Guide about "Two and A Half Men", Charlie Sheen drama

I made up my mind after watching the show last night that it is now totally off my watch list. I thought several weeks ago there was some hope for the show but that was the only episode that was anywhere near what the show used to be. It is just awful.

The TV Guide article quoted Jon Cryer as giving props to Kutcher because, unlike Sheen, he actually rehearses scenes "and improves them".

Based upon what I've seen so far this year any "improvement" must be miniscule. I realize working with Sheen had to be hellish and it might be a huge relief to work with someone who isn't on the verge of total disaster continually but the show sucks for two main reasons:

1. Kutcher is no actor.
2. The writers are writing absolute crap. They can't possibly be the same people who wrote the first 7 years.

I've got the first 7 years on DVD but I won't be watching any longer as I don't want to ruin the memory.

They interviewed Chuck Loree on Entertainment Tonight. He said he was ready to end the show. He said Kutcher came at just the right moment. He also said he hope Kutcher signs another contract after his one year contract is up. Loree also says he's ready to move onto writing movies.

Kutcher has only served to reveal that the emperor has no clothes. "Two and a Half Men" has always been a poorly written show- its plots are laughably basic and its as predictable as the outcome of an episode of "Cops". Still, Sheen and Cryer acted well enough to pull it off.

With Kutcher around, though, the veil has been lifted. Its not his fault, it was never a good show. Charlie Sheen was just able to carry it.

For the record, I actually like a lot of Chuck Lorre shows, so I'm not bashing him. I think "the Big Bang Theory" is the best comedy on television currently, but WB needs to end "Two and a Half Men" before it just gets downright embarrassing and ends the careers of these actors.

TAAHM right now is pretty bad. The only main person who I think is OK is Jon Cryer (Alan). Otherwise, the show has gone down the toilet since Charlie Sheen left. I guess it's time to cancel it?

Yep. It will probably not be renewed, no matter what the year-end ratings are.

In what fantasy world does that happen? :D

Re: Chuck Lorre talks to TV Guide about "Two and A Half Men", Charlie Sheen drama

I'm going to opine that as long as the viewers (ratings) are there the show will continue on. It is apparent the target demo does not have the same expectations for quality as *ahem* older demos do.

Given the low quality of the show now maybe C(BS) will move it to Fox. ;D

Agreed. If the ratings don't deteriorate late in the season, CBS will keep it on no matter how hard it sucks...unless Lorre, Kutcher or Cryer want out.

If you look at all the sitcoms over the years that have gone out near the top of the ratings, it's almost always because the stars want to hang-it up and move on...Mary Tyler Moore, Newhart, Seinfeld, Friends, etc.

On occasion, the star or producer (they're often both at the same time) will decide they want to quit before the quality of the show deteriorates - but it's too late for that in this case. Going one more season - even if ratings tank next year - will mean more shows in the can for syndication. Even Charlie Sheen wants that, given that he still gets a percentage of the money from syndication.

Slightly off subject - Row Lowe was a guest on Conan the other night, and said some interesting things about Sheen, who is a close friend. He said that even before his success on TV, everything Charlie touched turned to gold - in a monetary sense. Projects he was involved in - even when they were critical or commercial flops - always paid out big for Charlie, who apparently has a knack for making money. Thought that was interesting.

Re: Chuck Lorre talks to TV Guide about "Two and A Half Men", Charlie Sheen drama

Just my opinion but since Charlie Sheen is no long associated with the show, I just can't watch it anymore. Not that I haven't tried mind you. IMHO the quality of the show has diminished.

Despite all the hype, Aston Kutcher isn't that entertaining. One could only take so much of his Michael Kelso character and the same goes for Walden.

CBS executives should just pull the plug on the show at the end of this season. Of course they won't if the ratings remain high and the show makes money.

As noted Kutcher's contract is only for one year. I say don't renew his contract and find another actor to replace him as another option.
