Cincy HD radio being advertised again. Has it improved in the past 5 years?

I recently heard an ad for HD radio in Cincinnati. Amongst other claims, it stated HD radios were available for $50.

Have things changed in the past 5 years? (when I decided it wasn't worth it)

I'm about 25 miles from most central Cincinnati transmitters. Is that too far away to consider HD?

From Fairfield, most of the Cincinnati and Dayton HD stations are good. 102.7 has more dropouts than most because 102.9 Springfield get in to it. 97.3 isn't good here, but I haven't found a spot where their signal is good. WHKO booms in, and I've received the HD as far away as NKU. TUE, Mix, 99.9 are strong. WLW was great, but their HD has been off for months. No other AM stations have a reliable HD signal here. 980 works sometimes. 103.9 works at home, but not in the car.

I think all of the Cumulus stations turned it off. I like The Sound on 94.9, The Project on 102.7, and The Eagle on 99.1. I occasionally listen to WLW on 107.1.

I use an Alpine INE-S920HD in the car and a Sony XDR-F1HD at home. The Sony is the best tuner I have ever used!

It could be whoever was running it was just filling unsold ad time? I know a lot of Rush Limbaugh affiliates are doing this since his program is not attractive for most advertisers. I agree with you an the HD offerings in this market would not make me run out and try to buy an HD Radio though. You'd think Cumulus would want to run one of their formats like Classic R&B on one of their signals here. There are also several syndicated talk shows not in Cincinnati including sports shows.

Hey Brian,

If you are too far for radio reception you can always listen online to the HD feeds. It is not as fun as catching them over the air but you can still listen to what is being offered in each market.

Here is a link to tunein.com for Cincinnati
