Citadel Leading Candidate to Purchase Some Former CBS Stations in Rochester

I guess I'm remembering what WHAM was like when I worked there. We had news on the hour and half-hour during drive time. A 1/2 hour newscast at 5 and 11pm, music and personality radio throughout the day with veteran announcers who had worked their way up through the ranks from small town radio to Rochester. (Some went on to larger markets; Bill Shusta to KYW in Philly) Talk was delegated to either early evening or late night.

Bill is still at KYW -- has been a late-evening / early-morning anchor since the 1980s, perhaps the 1970s. I believe he lives in Delaware, as he also fills a reporter's role in stories involving the First State.

Speaking of KYW, Don Lancer (ex-'KB) is regarded as the "dean" of KYW's staff. He is their business editor and does most of the day-shift business reports and an extended "morning bell" Wall Street update at 9:18 AM each business day.

As to the question regarding *when* to air news, perhaps it's my NPR/shortwave news junkie bias, but news at :00 and :30 is the only solution that I'd consider "serious" news.

How much is enough? NPR's approach: 1 minute billboard, 5 minutes national, 4 minutes local at :00, 30-second billboard, two-minute national, 90-second local at :30.

To me, the :00 is a must. My watch beeps then, "every hour on the hour", reminding me to switch to the news at that time...
