Citadel to Employees: Happy Thanksgiving! Vacation Days Are Being Cut In Half!

Per Jerry DelColliano's blog, word has it that all Citadel employees are going to surrender half of their vacation days. To make matters worse, if you are a salesperson, all of your vacation days will be unpaid. A memo went out concerning this the day before Thanksgiving. What a morale booster for the folks on the Trail.

Citadel employees reading this post from the Trail will have to wait until they get home to read Jerry's blog. The evil Farid has blocked it from being accessed by company computers.

Lovely, ain't it?

You mean Gutless Barbra Hames. She never sticks up for the rank and file. The only happy people at the Trail are Buddy and Ronzo. Those 2 plus Farid walk all over her. I heard Barbra is going to have another show after Amazing Women called Gal Power. Then after that, Pat Masters and crew come back for a new show, The Female Avengers!
Not once has Hames gone to bat for a Citidel employee. She'll be at the Christmas party and everyone will kiss her behin and pretend to enjoy her company. This business is full of gutless sheep.

And he's recommendating all Citadel employees quit? HAHAHAHAHA
Unemployment is up everywhere. Especially in RI. People can't even get through on the phone to apply for benefits.
You know what I say? Deal with it and welcome to life as everyone else knows it.
People have dealt with indignities and tough times in radio for years. No one cares when it's on a one-by-one basis. When the mighty fall they whine louder than anyone else.
At least they have jobs and free parking on The Trail.
Welcome to my shoes

I like mostly everything Del Colliano says but he always blogs from the point of view of the way things should be and not the way things are. There will be no en masse resignation movements anywhere. Radio people are not noted for sticking to their guns when the alternative is not being in radio. If anything those with enough years in the business who have socked away savings and investments will institute a back up plan when they get disgusted enough. Charlie Jefferds is the luckiest one there next to Buddy. He doesn't even need this.

Yeah, FARID blows up a company that was worth 100s of millions of dollars and you guys go after one another! Farid reads all these boards and he MUST be laughing his AZZ off..

Show me ANY radio company that is worth 100s of millions at this point....can we all agree that yes, things were different 5, 10, 20, 30 years ago in radio; but it has CHANGED along with the rest of the world...here is a toothpick, let's start building the bridge to get over it!

.... You would have criticized them had they not. You all would have complained that they are in a budget crisis and they're letting people take 3 weeks of vacation a year.

Make up your minds.

But how much do they really save? First of all how many on air people at Citadel in Providence earn more than two weeks vacation? Giovanni and Kim don't get replaced when they're out. They run "best of" shows. When anyone else is out they very often have someone already in the building do the show live or tracked. Even when a part timer fills in that doesn't cost that much. I realize when you multiple these instances by all stations all over the country it's a different story but it's still a relatively minor expense compared to other ways big bucks are spent.

Hardly. The greater tragedy is that Farid Suleman, who is ultimately responsible for the mess that is Citadel Broadcasting, still makes $11 million dollars annually and has his personal taxes paid in full as is stipulated in his contract. If anyone should have to sacrifice anything it should be him. Not the folks in the trenches doing the best they can with what is available to them.

Fat chance he is giving up any vacation days. Although, the more time he spends away from his office, the better come to think of it.

And keep in mind, that just in time for holiday giftgiving, Farid has now lowered the boom on employee parking in Washington and Portland, ME starting January 1. It will now cost employees $125 a month to park before walking into the building in Washington (no parking available anywhere nearby) and $100 a month for a spot in Portland.

And it has nothing to do with "budget." Internally, the chain is making money. It's the investors who are getting screwed with a stock value now at $.18 a share. The "asset" value remains high. They still can pay Imus, Sliwa, Hannity, etc. It's the buying of stock for future growth that has gone down the tubes.

And don't forget, too, that Farid isn't the only "breadwinner." Mrs. Suleman (Judy Ellis - COO) doesn't work for free.

Happy Holidays!

Won't matter in Portland. There is plenty of alternative parking available

Ah, yes. I remember those days in the late 90's, when we had to scurry out of the building on State St. in downtown Bangor every 2 or 3 hours to move our cars from one space to another. PITA (but cheaper than buying a permit)

I'm sure this doesn't apply to everyone in Citadel/ABC.

Vacation time - especially for morning shows etc. are spelled out in contracts. I'm sure those people aren't losing any time. If they are, it's nothing a good attorney couldn't remedy.

So, by definition, anyone w/o a contract is screwed. IOW, most people.
