Clark Weber celebrates radio's last golden era in new memoir

I picked-up a copy anyway! I love the included CD. Clark was still cool. I asked him what he thought of the new WLS-FM. He said he thought they were doing better than when they first started out.

Like Larry Lujack said on WLS Memorial Day--"who the hell does Clark Weber think he is?"
$37 for his book--is he crazy?

...yes...

...BTW, I had a phone conversation with Larry when I was the Chicago columnist for the late RadioDigest.com and Lujack came out of the mothballs for that show on WUBT in 2000. He legitimately sounded amazed when I told him copies of his book SuperJock were selling for $50 a pop on eBay (they have an autographed copy now going for $250 -- it was list priced at $6.95 when published in 1975)...

*Lujack hates the book and only begrudingly accepts it as his. It was actually cobbled together by Sun-Times automotive writer Daniel Jedlicka from taped interviews with Lujack and airchecks of his shows. Jedlicka started out by getting a contract for the book from Henry Regnery (whose usual fare was conservative political material like William F. Buckley's God and Man at Yale) and then went to Lujack and said that he could either ignore Jedlicka's book or get involved and get a big piece of the action. Lujack got involved but has always resented the manner in which Jedlicka operated.

I decided to get the book upon recommendation in the Feder column a couple of weeks ago. It's actually pretty interesting, especially the early days of WLS in the Top 40 mode.
As to who may read this tome I sincerely doubt anyone under the age of 45 will 1. care, or 2. have a clue since most of the 35 and below group don't know what terrestrial radio is,and don't care as long as they can get the content online.
That said, if you want a first-hand account of "birthin' a baby", Clark's book is excellent. I am holding off listening to the CD until I finish reading.

I read the book and there are so many errors. Either Clark's memory is bad or he didn't want to hire a fact checker. His dates are mostly wrong & the story he tells about the song Gloria being originally done by the Zombies is just sloppy. The Bobby Darin song was actually done by Paul Anka 10 years later. He says WJJD powered down at night in the 50s when in actuality they were only a daytimer until 1981.
It's one thing to make a few mistakes, but this book has dozens of them.

On a positive note the pictures are very good.

...maybe Weber did hire a fact checker -- the same one that Bruce Morrow did. Remember, the guy who let Cousin #1 claim he got a copy of "I Want to Hold Your Hand" at WABC months before the song was even written? ;D ...

I don't remember that specifically, but it doesn't surprise me.
The thing about Weber's book is that there are so many errors it's impossible to count them all.
You'd need a calculator.
