Classic Country 95.5 The Hawk Switching Back To K95.5

Are you doubting Radio Insight's prediction that 95.5 will become mainstream country? There are plenty of mainstream country + new country duos out there.

Not sure but if you say so, a mainstream country + new country duo it is!

What is mainstream country anyway? I don't pay any attention to the format.

I don't follow the country either, but a mainstream format would include both today's top country hits plus some amount of older stuff -- though not as old as Classic Country would play.

When I was driving down through Alabama in October, I heard some real cool sounding old school country music on the radio stations down there. Never was a big country fan, and hadn't heard that jukebox country sound in years.

My guess 95.5 (K95.5) will shift to mainstream country which means they like others have said will be "current" based with Classic Country/Gold mixed in...

107.1 may stay "new" country for now but I would think they may change the format down the road... Though as we know there are FM stations with HD that do "new" country on HD-2s so maybe Wilks will stick with it on 107.1's main signal ..

I still see 107.1 possibly moving formats to something else if K95.5's numbers feel threatened by it.

Merle Haggard, Tammy Wynette, and singers from that era (the old WMNI playlist) sounded great driving down I-65 in Alabama. Love that twangy sound. Don't know if there's a market for it, though.

I remember in-between WCOL going from Oldies to Country, they did a countdown clock where they counted down from 10,000 to 1 and then launched the new format. Also, WCOL wasn't oldies for very long...they flipped the calls from WXGT(92X)and Rock 40 to WCOL and Oldies around October 1990 I believe(Jason could clear this up since he was there at the time)and flipped to Country in early 1994, so they were Oldies a little over three years and a few months. WCOL has been a powerhouse ever since.

"10,000 in a row clear static free country music" launched on February 14, 1994 at 6pm. I remember the first song being Alan Jackson's Chattahoochee.
Thanks for filling in the blanks for me Matt! I remember that one of the Columbus TV stations did a story on the WCOL countdown and flip and even mentioned that it was going Country before it happened. The countdown clock was pretty cool I thought at the time.

Thanks for the correction Ohio Media Watch... This isn't the first time I've messed up on spelling.
Spell Check doesn't always do the trick. Hopefully the last time. ;)
the last time.. ;)

Speaking of WHOK 95.5, they have a new M/F morning team and they seem pretty good. They mentioned their Facebook page
but I didn't take note of it since I'm not a CW fan at all.
Also, is this the same logo K95 was using twenty years ago??? http://www.whok.com/

Wouldn't be surprised if 107.1 changes formats by the end of the year.

Sorry about that...I don't normally do that, but you do the "dose" thing all the time. But your spelling, otherwise, is not bad...that's just one bit you do that bugs me, because I keep going to the medicine cabinet each time you say "dose". ;)
