Classic Disney Channel shows are coming to late-night on Freeform

Freeform apparently knows you like to fall asleep to the sounds of Lizzie McGuire.

The network has announced plans to air some classic Disney Channel TV shows during a new late-night block called That's So Throwback.

As the name hints, That's So Raven will be included in the block, as will Hannah Montana and Kim Possible.

Episodes will every Monday through Thursday from midnight to 2 a.m. On Fridays, that same time block will be dedicated to airing a Disney Channel Original Movie from days past.

The fun begins May 2.

There was also a revival of Sabrina the Teenage Witch in the early 2000s on Disney.

It originally aired on ABC...Anyone remember when the Disney Channel aired "Vault Disney" late nights (mid-late 90's, maybe?) They would show old Wonderful World Of Disney, Annette-Cubby era Mickey Mouse Club, and even stuff like Zorro.

I do and I miss it. Disney was even a premium channel for a time and I was willing to pay extra to see some of those old TV shows, as well as the old movies made when Walt was alive. I can only figure today's Disney keeps that stuff off the air so people will have to buy (way over-priced) DVDs, on which Disney maintains artificial scarcity by only releasing stuff for a brief period every seven years (not unlike Ponn Farr).

I'd rather pay a reasonable amount to be able to see old shows than pay six dollars a month for ESPN, which I never watch.

Sabrina aired on The WB(forerunner to The CW) in the early 2000's, not Disney.

How long will it be before Freeform merges into The Disney Channel?

Not until the 700 Club relents on the apparently ironclad perpetuity carriage clause that still must be honored from the Family Channel days. Don't think Disney wants Pat Robertson chewing up time nightly on the flagship kids channel.

I still chuckle at the thought of the folks at Freeform having to grimace while their programming grinds to a halt for an hour to air Pat & Co.

According to Disney The 700 Club is treated as an infomercial on Freeform. Wow Pat Roberson controls Freeform even though he stopped owning that channel 2 decades ago that is amazing.

Even if Cap Cities/ABC (the deal was pre-Disney, right?) wanted Robertson's Family Channel desperately, why would they accept such an unbreakable, never-ending agreement in the deal? Wouldn't it have made more sense for ABC to just create a network full of "safe" programming for children rather than paying CBN big bucks for a channel that would have to carry The 700 Club until the end of time? Was it the inability to use the "Family" brand on its own offering that made such an alternative course of action impossible?

Fox bought the original bought Family Channel for it's wide placement on cable systems thinking they could get younger demos, then Disney bought it at a Rupert Murdoch's fire sale thinking they could run ABC shows on it without actually talking to anyone at ABC, either no one ever read the contract or they though they could bury Pat at 2AM, I guess the deal also includes the annual $700 Club beg-a-thon on the last Sunday of every January, maybe they expect then can finally kick it off when Pat goes Jesus, but what would they put there for late night?
