Classic Hip-Hop in the twin cities, could it come to Seattle?

Any thoughts? I find it odd that iHeart is trying Classic Hip-Hop in a market that can't even support a rhythmic CHR, and we have one here that's not doing so well. Not only that, this station would have played this music when it was actually hot.

Which iHeart station are you referring to?

Didn't KHTP declare themselves as "100% Throwbacks"?

Which iHeart station here isn't doing well that would have playd this music when it was hot? That would be KUBE 93.

Entercom is the station that is running a Classic Hip-Hop format in Hot 103.7 (for now, at least). KUBE plays Hip-Hop from today to make itself different from Movin' and Kiss. On KUBE, classic hip-hop is a spice.

Ok Bongwater, you have a point, and AQH, I see your argument. However, while 103.7 is all throwbacks, it's not all Hip-Hop except for 6 hours on Sundays. The rest of the time, it's a mix of Hip-Hop and rhythmic pop from the 90s and 2000s.

What station are you referring to in your opening post in this thread?

KHTP is not classic hip hop and is not Rhythmic AC. Rather, it's a mess of 90s hip hop, 2000s Rhythmic AC and Rhythmic Contemporary and a few newer hits heard on KQMV/KBKS for sprinkling.
I could see KLCK taking the Classic Hip Hop format. Maybe their ratings would go up finally...a few months ago they had a LAUGHABLE 1.9 in the PPM. Even smooth jazz wouldn't have a 1.9 PPM rating. Classic Hip Hop might be appealing to Seattleites.

I thought I already told you it was KUBE 93.3.

The "Classic Hip-Hop in the twin cities" is what I'm asking about. Are you saying there's a station in Minneapolis/St. Paul, or some other "twin cities?"

Thanks for the morning laugh.

Yes, there's a translator there that was just launched on Friday running the format. It's 102.5, and was formerly broadcasting Air1.

And if you read my post just below your original one, you'll see that I said it may work as a HD2 format - which is exactly what this is, being rebroadcast on a translator. Not a full market signal. End of thread.

Ok you do have a valid point. However, the key seems to be the translator, and we've seen in this market that owners don't want to use the translator method of rebroadcasting an hd in this market. Find me an hd2 feed without a translator that can even pull a 0.1 in the ratings.

Solid point.

I don't think they CAN (save KHTP) use translators in this market. So unless Mercer Island High wants to give up 94.5.....

Exactly. And as noted above, the format is not mass-appeal enough to justify putting it on a full market signal. So again, there's not anything more to discuss.

You're probably right about not being able to use anymore translators than are already available, but I've said it before and I'll say it again, KHTP's 103.3 is totally unnecisary, yet it's been rebroadcasting 103.7 for at least 6 years now. Meanwhile, in other markets including down here in Portland, all the translators in the market are running an hd feed, allowing them to operate as another radio station. That being said, I couldn't seen Entercom doing that with 103.3, they'd probably lease it to iHeart or Hubbard if Classic Hip-Hop has any chance in Seattle. That being said, you want to know how simply an hd signal with no translator showing up or not in the ratings has anything to do with this thread? Well think about this, if you were to launch a new format that was getting decent to good numbers in other markets, why would you launch it on an hd2 with no translator when even if every radio in the market was tuned to hd it would still only garner maybe a 0.2? That may not be much less than you're able to gain from a translator, but you're going to have it a lot easier with a translator than without one.
