Clear Channel To Sell One FM station in Jacksonville

Since no one has mentioned it yet here on the board I thought I would bring this up. In the Times-Union early in the week ran a story about Clear Channel having to sell one of the Jacksonville stations in order to meet the requirments for the merger. In order to meet that they have to sell one FM. My guess is that they are going to sell the lowest (weakest if you want to call it that way) in order to meet the requirments. My guess is that 93.3 will be the one droped off by Clear Channel and sold, but then again it could be one of the others. I think Clear Channel will leave WQIK, WJBT, WSOL, WFKS, WPLA alone as they are market leaders. WROO is basically a target for being sold.

Here is some possiblities:

-Cox Radio buys the FM station but since they are maxed out at how many FMs they can own I don't see that happening.
-Renda buys the FM station. This will be logic no matter what station it is. If it is Rooster that gets sold and Renda picks it up they will kill it with a flip to something else. I think Renda has a major chance to pickup a great signal.
-Tama, but I just dont think they can do it. The stations they have dont perform well and are rimshot signals (esp 105.7). I also don't think Tama would be able to come with at least 5 to 10 million to buy the FM.
-Maybe an independent operator and return oldies no matter what FM it is (lol....pie in the sky).

Who ever gets what station could signal a major change in the market.

Talk about it...lets hear the ideas.

A few possibilities:

1. Sell 93.3 for the reasons you described.
2. Move The Beat to 93.3--or heck, 97.9--and sell 92.7, which is [on paper anyway] a worse signal than 93.3.
3. "Sell" one FM to a non-threatening entity/shell, then LMA it back.

I do think if the FCC would let Renda get away with it (and why not?), they would jump all over this opportunity. But would CC sell it to them? Not sure. They may be negotiating a bulk sale sort of deal with a group that doesn't operate here yet.

BUZZ! The reason they're selling these stations in the first place is to make sure they're in full compliance with ownership caps to make the transaction close as smoothly as possible. In the most recent changes to the ownership limits, it was deemed that LMAs COUNT TOWARDS A COMPANY'S TOTAL OWNERSHIP IN A MARKET. Not going to happen.

CC will sell to whoever ponies up the most money. If that happens to be Renda, then so be it. Clear Channel really doesn't care after everything's said and done... plus, it's not like CC/Jax will have any say in the matter at all. The decision will ultimately come from Cincinnati or San Antonio.

Why do this? 92.7 can pull a 6 plus share on a Class A signal. Not many stations can pull that one. Plus why move it to 93.3? I know you may get more listners but they have to improve on the signal south of the city esp in St. Augustine. 97.9 may not be a bad option since KISS has never neen able to be APE in the ratings for almost seven years now.

later.
