Cleto Escobedo III of Jimmy Kimmel Live deceased

So sad to hear this today. He's apparently the "personal matter" that Jimmy had for not taping a show last Thursday. His cause of death has not yet been revealed, but it sounds like it might have been a "short illness" perhaps causing him to be hospitalized, last week. Much too young. Very sad. Jimmy's so good to his friends and puts them all on his show! Condolences to his family and friends.

this has been a very difficult time for Jimmy Kimmel and the staff of Jimmy Kimmel Live with the aftermath of Jimmy Kimmel's comments about Charlie Kirk leading to the show being suspended and taken off of select ABC Stations owned by Nexstar & Sinclair and now this sad tragic passing, and if it's anything like the passing of "Uncle Frank" Francis Potenza in 2009 and the health scare Jimmy's son Billy had as a infant where he needed heart surgery in 2017, then this will be a sad and emotional monologue segment and not the normal funny one where does the usual comedy he does on his show.

plus last Thursday show was canceled due to "A Personal Matter" which was later reveal to be related to Cleto's heath taking a turn for the worse in the final days of his life.

also Cleto had been missing from the show for months before this heartbreaking news was broken today.

The whole opening monologue tonight is about Cleto. Riveting television. He says they'll be off for the next few nights. But he wanted to be live tonight to talk about his friend.

You're right, it was riveting. Very emotional. Jimmy could barely hold it together at times, but in general he did an admirable job of describing what happened and how much he and Cleto, and his family, meant to each other. Certain moments were really tough to watch.

Edit: Cleto apparently had had a kidney transplant a few months ago, and had been suffering from complications. Rest in peace, Cleto Escobedo III. He was very loved.

I don't know if this might be the first time a bandleader of a late show passed away while it was still on the air. I suppose there will be guest bandkeaders until a replacement is found.

His dad may be the temporary bandleader if he wants to keep the role in the show's family and Cleto's family in a manner of speaking. He was on the show the other night when Jimmy was doing the monologue and the camera panned to him multiple times, and was playing during the open as well as in and out of breaks.
