Cleveland Browns Daily moves to afternoons, GK shuffles Rome to WWGK 1540

Surprised this hasn't been mentioned here yet.

So Jim Rome gets booted to a station that OMW likes to joke is licensed to a single street on the east side. How long before he jumps ship to 92.3?

I posted about it on the Browns Radio Network thread.

Rome is kinda on 92.3 already, as he does "CBS Sports Minute" commentaries in the evening hours.

Rome hasn't been all that big in WKNR's plans for awhile now, as they punted his first hour over to 1540 a few years ago when they expanded RBS to 1 p.m.

And now that he's in the CBS stable, his show meshes even less with KNR as the station is now in bed with the Browns, and has long been hooked up with ESPN.

I hope 92.3 does not pick him up.Cleveland sports talk listeners want local talk during the day not talk about Nocal and Socal. His show has always been terrible. Same thing day after day. Brags about his interviews for the rest of his show after he does them. Thanks for the vine, rack him, blah blah blah. He is right where he belongs on a station that you can barely pick up. His act wore tired in the early 2000s.

CBS "Fan" stations usually have a live and local motif during the day, so I seriously doubt that 92.3 would shoehorn Rome on their schedule.

Unless something out of left field happens, it's 1540 or nothing for Rome.

I didn't say the HD-2 had listeners. I was just offering that as an alternative to people who have HD radio.

its a freaking Browns infomercial. it so boring, and the host has the personality of shoe leather. How was this show ever put on the air. Did Haslam buy KNR, and is the host a family member? Thank goodness Rome is off the station, get that LA nonsense out of here. Time to clean house in Cleveland radio, Brinda, hooley, the nasally whiner. Thank God we have the fan, at least those folks are not boring, and are not bought by the team, (as of yet)

You don't think Baskin and Phelps are boring? It's the most vanilla radio I've ever heard in this town. Can you name one opinion they have?

What is 92.3 HD-2 airing between 12p and 3p?

Those are still fans of Rome's show can't be pleased of the switch of his show from 850 to 1540.

I get that 92.3 doesn't want to mess with their local lineup, but if the ratings still have not changed after the Browns start playing, something would have to give.

Plus, who knows if ESPN would pressure 1540 to air their programming instead of Rome.

If Rome does end up on The Fan, yet 1540 does not want ESPN shows, maybe they can get Jay Mohr's show on their schedule. :)

That "freaking Browns infomercial" was what got KNR's foot in the door to eventually become the AM flagship.

Selling their soul to the devil...maybe, but from their perspective, the ends justified the means.

The hosts are Nathan Zegura, who is a longtime fantasy football geek who's been doing shows forever, and Vic Carrucci, who's the senior editor of Cleveland Browns.com, and a former NFL.com writer.

And no...Haslam didn't buy KNR. "Browns Daily" is a Browns Radio Network production done from Berea.

Not sure if you are defending the show, or ? My point is "boring is boring", I enjoy good sports talk. It doesn't matter to me where it comes from. Maybe the station did sell their soul to get the Browns, but what are the ratings for this infomercial? I feel people all over the area are switching stations as soon as this program comes on. I work early on the weekends, and there it was on the "Fan", can't seem to get away from it. It is a brutal, shoved down your throat, pathetic attempt to get people to watch the Browns. Put a winning product on the field and this kind of nonsense will not be needed.

I'm not defending the quality of the show at all. It's not my cup of tea either.

All I ever said was that it was a means to an end for WKNR to help them get the Browns rights.

You had asked how the show got on the air, and the answer was that the Browns paid for the airtime, as it's an in-house team production.

WKNR was willing to put the show smack dab in the middle of their schedule and shoo long-time station institution Jim Rome down to 1540 KNR2 in order to help secure the Browns rights.

WTAM and WMMS surely weren't going to do that, and even 92.3 The Fan said no.

The Fan does carry a weekend version of the show on Saturday mornings...again, chalk it up to the price of doing business in order to get the games.

I've brought this up before...the team wanted stations that would douse themselves in orange and brown paint in order to get the games, and this is the result. On 1100 and 100.7, the Browns were spokes on the wheel, but with the current arrangement, the Browns now are the wheel, which is what they wanted all along.
