Cloris Leachman: "I'm So Sick Of Betty White, Never Liked Her"

Whatever. Leachman vs. White. Not even a contest. Move beyond MTM, and Betty's career is 10X what Leachman's was. Don't get me wrong, Cloris was talented, but her comments mean so little it ain't even funny. (Unless she was trying to be funny, in which case I will give Cloris a few points, but still poorly executed).

Cloris Leachman won an Oscar for "The Last Picture Show" and 8 Emmys (1 Daytime/7 Primetime)
Betty White won 5 Emmys (1 Daytime/4 Primetime).

Both have had a long career in show business. However, I do think Cloris Leachman was taking the piss with Betty's recent resurgence in popularity. They may not be best friends forever but if you saw Cloris on Dancing With The Stars you'd know not to take much of what she does or says very seriously.

It's a joke, people.

It may be true that what Cloris said may have been a joke but it sounds like in the article that Cloris is jealous of what Betty White has accomplished at her age (88 years old) which if so it wouldn't be the first time that an actor or actress would be jealous of someone who might be more talented than he or she.

And I don't exactly know what the relationships are like now between the The Mary Tyler Moore Show cast members since practically all of the cast members are still alive and well and there haven't been any behind the scenes stories of MTM aside from the supposed feud now with Cloris and Betty. But I do know that people after they die tend to spill out their dirty laundry of what happened behind the scenes of certain shows (example: The Golden Girls, where there was a story where Bea Arthur didn't get along with Betty White).

It would be interesting to hear Betty White's side of the story about Cloris' statement that she doesn't like Betty White and whether it's a joke to her or not.

So in that setting, she could have gone the fawning, mushy, mutual love society route. Result: conspiracy theorists say she doth protest too much and must be covering up a latent hostility.

She could have gone the "say little" route, quickly tossing out a polite but generic answer designed to move the proceedings on to the next question. Result: conspiracy theorists say we must read between the lines of what she didn't say to find the latent hostility.

Or she could make a quip designed to elicit a quick laugh and show some wit. Result: comspiracy theorists say the "joke" must be laced with truth about some latent hostility.

I guess she could have feigned sudden deafness when the question was asked, but that probably would have been taken the same way.

Cloris was on Kathy Griffith's Life On The D List last night. She came off as an old
booze drinking has been. Betty would never allow herself to reach that state.

We live in a world where people analyze others way to much.

I don't completely disagree with that statement. However, keep in mind Betty White has renewed her career in 2010, starting with the Super Bowl Ad, the Saturday Night Live/Facebook success, and even the star of a new sitcom, (jury still out on that). But for someone who is in her 80's, and has had a magnificent television career, anything Betty White IS news.

Whether the Cloris/Betty fued is real is not the point. Sure it may be a joke, or it might not. Regardless, I read this as Cloris trying to ride the coat tails of Betty, which is kind of sad. More power to Betty, who has done it right from 1948 to today. Betty is a true televison star, not for any one moment, but for her longevity of being relevant and compelling in an industry that has she has shined in for the past 60 years. Who else can claim that?

Riding her coat tails? Really? As for as I know Leachman has never really been out of the movies or TV shows for too long to need to ride anyones coat tails.

I think you missed my point. Betty has been hot in 2010, Cloris, not so much.

I didnt miss any point, you were trying to say Cloris was riding coat tails just because shes not as high profiled as Betty is

She was asked a question on that point, which is hardly the same as offering a comment unsolicited in order to ride someone else's coattails.
