Close Encounter of the Second and a Half Kind at WBMJ in 1975?

I was "Googling" around for historical info on Puerto Rican radio stations when I stumbled onto this: http://www.northernstar.no/wbmj.htm#_ftn3
http://www.ufoinfo.com/humanoid/humanoid1975.shtml (Scroll down to #93)

To sum it up: graveyard shift DJ sees "glowing humanoid" and purported UFO thru the window of WBMJ 1190's rooftop studio in San Juan. Poor guy gets so spooked he cuts into the music to tell whoever is listening what he just saw, and even had to be taken to the hospital for sedation.

Was there ever a logical explanation for this? Was it just a stunt?

Nevertheless, it makes for a scary great read late at night.

Ooh, I'd love to hear an aircheck of that.

Happy Halloween!
NYAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA! :>

What a great website. It brought back some amazing memories. I was PD and morning jock of WQBS-FM (Cadena Radio P.R. - as Bob Santiago)) back then and very close with Davy O'Donnell and Charlie Brown. I would love to know whats become of them .... I guess, with it being a Bob Hope Station.....it would be aporpos to say "Thanks for the memory"

WBMJ was pretty much killed in the FM revolution that took place in 1979. In late '78, 14 FM shares existed, and 12 months later, FM had over 60 shares. The station was sold to Jerry Masucci of Fania Records, and manager Bob Benett and Jerry had a falling out. WBMJ did classic salsa for a while and was then sold to the Lutrell group that owns the religious AM on Vieques and became all religious.

Bob, I don't recall the FM version of QBS... I thought the AM went from WKYN to the Spanish language network tied with WORA and WPRP in about 1970, with people like Pedro Ruiz, Marianito Artau, Alfred D Herger and Wiso Cosme as PD in the 1970 to 1975 period. WBMJ became Spanish language Radio Rock in about 1973, and was among the top 3 or 4 stations for the next 6 or 7 years.

David,
The WQBS-FM was also tied to WORA and WPRP.......it was in English and, don't forget, FM was not real respected back then. Glenn Tryon named me PD of the FM...but, it was still pretty experimental. I remember tracking Joni Mitchell's "Blue" album because a girl I knew liked it. The AM was where the $$$$ was. I shared a newsman (Pedro Vargas) with the AM.......
