First Boston Harbor Summer Music Cruise Set to Sail June 15th
Summer Kick-off is Official Tribute to Radio Legend Vinnie Peruzzi
featuring the King of Freestyle Stevie B.

Boston, Mass—June 1, 2007—On Friday, June 15, 2007 under the night sky on Massachusetts Bay, amidst a breathtaking panoramic view of Boston’s magnificent skyline, DJ Ricky P will once again christen the much-anticipated, summer music series aboard the famed Provincetown II during the second annual Club Classic Cruise featuring a LIVE performance by international recording artist Stevie B. (Party your Body, Spring Love).

The three-hour floating party around Boston’s inner harbor will once again pay tribute to Boston radio legend Vinnie Peruzzi who presided over several of the perennial “booze” cruises for many years. August 13th marks the third anniversary of the death of the affable DJ, affectionately known as Disco Vinnie, who died at the age of 51 after a long illness. Peruzzi worked at several Boston radio stations including KISS 108 FM, JAMN’ 94.5 FM and finally at the late STAR 93.7 FM.

“We are looking forward to continuing the tradition Vinnie began with Bay State Cruises. We literally rocked the boat last year and we’re going to blow everyone out of the water this year with a live performance by Stevie B.,” said DJ Rick Poccio long-time friend and former producer to Peruzzi.

Poccio, more commonly known in the Boston club circuit as DJ Ricky, will be spinning all the favorite club classics along with a mix of today’s hottest dance music.

The cruise is being produced by the Balboni Communications Group, LLC and Rick Poccio in association with Evan Myers, together with the Friends of Vinnie Peruzzi in partnership with MIX 98.5 FM. The purpose of the floating flashback bash is to continue Peruzzi’s tradition of summer classic dance cruises on Boston Harbor.

Fast Freddie from Boston radio station MIX 98.5 FM will head a VIP list of Vinnie’s longtime radio and record associates, family members and friends.

Boarding begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Commonwealth Pier at the World Trade Center in South Boston. Admission is $20 per person. Tickets can be purchased on-line at www.baystatecruises.com, by calling 617-748-1428 or dockside the night of the cruise beginning at 6:30 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Vinnie Peruzzi Foundation at the Dana Farber Cancer Center. This is a rain or shine event.

At the conclusion of the cruise, party people will be heading to the all-new 20 Martini Bar located
inside the JIN Entertainment Complex (formerly Weylus) on Route One North in Saugus, Mass. for the official after-party. Entrance to the after-party is included in the cruise price of admission. This is a 21 plus event. Proper ID is required. Dress to party!

Naturally, as a fan of the late Vinnie Peruzzi, I hope this goes off well. However....

As I wrote on my Mix 98-5 Back To The 80s post, most of the Mix listeners will be expecting to hear Journey, Lita Ford, Pat Benatar, Dire Straits and Nik Kershaw. Therefore, they will really be disappointed to hear Donna Summer, KC & the Sunshine Band, Madonna, Prince, and the cruise's special guest Stevie B instead.

As I also wrote, Mix sponsoring the Disco Vinnie Memorial cruise would be the same as WZLX and/or WBCN doing the same. Would you expect Jam'n to sponsor any Ozzy or AC/DC concert? Same difference.

Again to Steve, as I posted this in his Back to the 80's Friday night post. This was my response as it pertains to the Club Classic Cruise. Read Below......

Steve,

Hi This is DJ Ricky, and I would like to correct you on a couple of points. First I can see and or understand your logic towards the format on the Back to the 80's Friday night show. Yes that show is geared toward alot of the MTV 80's hits, as that has always been the format of that show for the most part.

However, you mentioned that the commercial about the Club Classic cruise and noting how listeners will be disappointing expecting to hear 80s' rock music. That is where I need to correct you.

1. Since this cruise is a long time tradition of my dear friend Vinnie Peruzzi, everyone who goes on the cruise knows what to expect with the music. They come on the boat to hear the club classics, the disco and that is what they will hear. No one has ever come up to me to request a rock oriented song. So again the listeners are smart and they know the history behind the club classic cruise's and what it is associated with. And by far they have never been or will they ever be disappointed with these cruises!!! Vinnie has made these cruises a success for many years, and I will continue to honor my friend and do the same!!

2. The reason why there are spots on Mix is because you should know that many people who work at Mix have a history in the business with Vinnie Peruzzi, many on air jocks and especially the current PD at MIX. So they embrace us to do this and as a result we have longtime Vinnie friends, Like Fast Freddy hosting this cruise.
Yes unfortunately no radio station in boston is a rhythm based format, as that would be the ideal station to advertise this cruise on, but again, the we have a great relationship with Mix, I know the people there and they want to continue Vinnie's tradition as well and that is why we are once again partnering with them.

So a reminder to all: A Great night is schedule for Friday June 15th, as the club classic cruise sets sail again, with me DJ Ricky, Fast Freddy and a Live performance by Stevie B!!!! Get your tickets now, by calling Bay State cruise lines at 617-748-1428, or www.baystatecruises.com. Also more information can be found on my website: www.djrickyboston.com. Hope to see everyone on the Boat!!
