CNN, MSNBC, NBC are praising George HW Bush

It may just be me, just I am noting that these networks are going out of their way to credit Bush with being a calm, reasonable, honest, classy Republican President. While they are certainly giving their due respect to a President who has passed away, there does seem to be some political aim in this as a comparison to our current leader. I don't particularly like it, but on the other hand they are mostly right on the mark. Thoughts?

The comparison is valid. If the current President were in the mold of President Bush's civility and higher purpose, they could just as easily be drawing comparisons. Saying nice things about the deceased is hardly new.

There are a lot of pundits at both CNN and MSNBC who worked with GHWB and feel alienated by the current administration. David Gergen is someone who worked for both Bush and Clinton at a time when it wasn't uncommon or when things weren't so partisan. And prior to a few years ago, neither CNN nor MSNBC were doing what they're doing now. Makes me wonder what they'll do when things change.

SNL did a nice tribute to Bush tonight on "Weekend Update" with adding comedy from Dana Carvey's impression. Nice!

Carvey and Bush became friends, after Bush wrote Carvey to compliment him on his impression. The hosted Carvey and his family at the White House, and stayed in touch over the years.

Though my politics are very different, there are two Republican Presidents over my lifetime that I had considerable respect for - Jerry Ford and George HW Bush. Never voted for either one, but respected them none the less.

Ironically, what they showed of Bush was his criticizing Carvey for going overboard, while at the same time Bush was doing some of the very things he was criticizing Carey for. Bush was so nice about it that I figured it was all made up. Carvey defended himself, of course.
