It looks like old C-bus has returned to the days of when i was younger.....the days of nice, safe radio....first Stern gets yanked before he can say his goodbyes and now Bob & Tom get the ax.....im not a B & T fan, but after Stern got his walking papers, i actually thought about give B & T a try...and not to even mention the loss of Jim Rome a few years back...oh well, time for Columbus to return to its mediocre, average cowtown radio....whats next???? 1460 goes back to adult standards????

God I hope 1460 goes back to adult standards...they are horrible as a sports station! 1230 The Zone was better than 1460 ever was!

I respectfully disagree. 1230 had few if any actual sports. They could have made a push for some local sports broadcast rights like The Crew, The Clippers, etc. The Browns were on 105.7. 1230 had the Reds didn't they? Or just when 610 couldn't? They had zero local content, all syndicated. I miss Tony Bruno and I know a lot of you guys miss Rome but I like 1460 for the local content. OSU gameday is 1460's bread and butter and 610 just doesn't hold a candle and 1230 did nothing.

1460 may be flawed but they carry the Buckeyes and in this town, that's enough to keep you afloat.

Yea I would totally agree. Morning radio in Columbus is in a sorry state now. If you like listening to morning radio without music (like myself), you are left with very little to choose from. There is the Zoo which I personally don't care for and Wags and Elliot which is 'ok' I guess but they still play more music than I care to listen to.

Anyone have any suggestions? I live on the west side of Columbus and was able to get WTUE out of Dayton just barely depending on where my car was but lost it well before I got to work in Dublin.

You beat me to the punch. 1230 was never better than 1460, but I will admit it gave me the best 1-2 radio punch of my life for about two years: Rome from noon-3, then Hendrie from 3-6. That'll always be a fond memory.
1230 did have the Reds but no other semi-local progremming (remember they carried Michigan games for that one season? God how stupid that was ...). The Reds were moved over from 610 in 2001 after being there for 10 years or so.
I must disagree that 610 doesn't hold a candle on Buckeye coverage. They do as well as possible while not having the games. I think they're easier at times to listen to than the Fan.

I'm sorry, I'm confused. When wasn't Columbus mediocre, average cowtown radio?

They still do, in fact, two format changes later (The Zone -> Real Oldies -> Progressive Talk). They also presently have the Cleveland Cavaliers, or they did last I checked.

I never got to listen to Rome's radio show when it was here, but judging from his ESPN "Jim Rome is Burning" show, I just can't *stand* the man. His act, if it's even an act, of being the smarmy and arrogant sportswriter who thinks he knows more than everyone else - without an obvious sense of humor, like some other ESPN personalities have - *really* gets under my skin. I mean, every now and then he'll say something I agree with, but for the most part I just want to throttle him whenever I stumble across his show. As a synthesis of Rush Limbaugh and Bob Costas - incidentally, two other people I have little to no respect for - he's just not to my taste at all. More power to you if you like him, but he does nothing for me, sorry...

The local coverage is a major plus for 1460. Granted, it may not be the best radio - but at least the effort is made to keep 1460 from being what so many other ESPN Radio stations are, a translator for the main satellite feed (save for live coverage of local games). That's more than 1230 ever did as The Zone.

I would argue that 610 does about as good as can be expected given they don't have the rights to broadcast the actual *games* - their pregame coverage, I think, has a bit more personality than 1460's. But that's just me, YMMV.

Being owned by the Dispatch doesn't hurt, either.
Edited by TheKid965 on 09/23/05 05:53 PM.

This is a fairly accurate assessment of my opinion of Jim Rome too. It was funny for a couple months but after that, I just couldn't stand him. He does have a huge following though.
