comcast adds two more un-significant channels...on CC/S-SW-P lineup.

As of this afternoon, FIT-TV on 181 and Religious D-Star on 287, this adds to the many other religious formats they are carrying...I have nothing against religuous formats, but when they continuously ignore GSN and put those on its a bit ridiculous. They go as far as promoting GSN events and other things from GSN but refuse to carry it....I called many times but get the run-around...

We just got those 2 channels in our area (NE-NW Philadelphia area 3 and 4) a few days ago. I'm shocked that folks in Center City, South Philly don't have GSN. What is going on?
 
For some unknown reason, this area has not had GSN on the lineup since their birth over 20 years ago. To my knowledge, this is the only Comcast system that does not carry GSN, or as a matter of fact the only cable or satellite system that does not carry it on the planet. I have called numberous times only to be given the run around, no one has a real answer....One Crapcast employee told me to tune to 179 on the digital lineup and it should be there and it was not....she did not know what to say and disconnected me.
 
I live in Delaware County and I've had GSN since at least 2000. They moved it a few years go to the digital tier but it's still carried here.
 
What's so great about GSN? Although it is unusual for a Comcast system not to have it, everytime I turn it on GSN, it's "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire" or "Family Feud" and a lot of shows I can find on broadcast.

I think that you should contact GSN about this: www.gsn.com and let them know.

I think this is a big deal because GSN is available on comcast in one half of the city of Philadelphia in the North, Northeast and Northwest Philly area. The other parts of the city that have comcast don't have this channel.
 
Is it possible that there is a competing cable system in the affected area that holds some kind of exclusivity clause for GSN in that region? Kinda like what Cablevision has in the New York Metro area for MSNBC. From what I understand, back when the network first signed on (thirteen years to the day, as a matter of fact) as "America's Talking", they signed an agreement with Cablevision for exclusivity against competing cable systems (RCN was gaining traction as a competitor at that time) and other perks (if you look at the Cablevision channel lineup, MSNBC is the first non-shopping basic channel, at 23). The interesting thing is that this Cablevision exclusivity clause is indefinite, with no end in sight, it appears. This is why many folks are refusing to switch over th Verizon FiOS; on their channel lineup, there is an asterisk next to MSNBC indication "where available", which translates into "any territory where Cablevision is not in the area". In fact, here is a thread from another website featuring comments posted from angry MSNBC viewers, some of whom claim they subscribed to Verizon FiOS' cable, and then upon finding out MSNBC was not available, cancelled FiOS and resubscribed with Cablevision!

But getting back to the subject at hand... Although some refer to Comcast as "the Comcast monopoly," it gives the impression that there is no alternative for cable... but with what I just laid out, it makes me wonder if there's some sort of grandfathered clause that GSN has with another cable system. After all, as a poster above says, GSN has been around for 20 years! ;D
 
I don't think there exists any exclusivity with GSN by another cable system. The only times there was competition from Comcast or Cablevision in the Jersey PA area was from RCN, and now Fios, and Comcast and Cablevision the much larger systems reaped any benefits.

I think its just Comcast overlooking a channel missing in question. Comcast despite being based in Philadelphia isn't very local catering and just goes by aggregate numbers. They'll see that GSN in XX million homes across the country on Comcast lineups, and CNN is in YY million homes across the country on Comcast lineups, where YY > XX, but not pinpoint that Comcast Philadelphia lacks GSN. I wonder if Brian Roberts however lives with that lineup. If his kids were on that lineup and complained, I'm sure it'd be added.
