Comcast SportsNet RSN's To Be Rebranded As "NBC Sports"

In addition to a previously reported plan to rebrand the Versus cable network to a new name importing the NBC branding, Dick Ebersol says that the Comcast Sportsnet regional sports networks in markets like Philadelphia and Chicago will also be changing their names to reflect their relationship with NBC Sports.

"Something like NBC Sports Philadelphia, NBC Sports Chicago, etc."

There is also a new Comcast Sports Southwest network. That will likely be renamed, while CSS will probably not because of the Charter involvement.

Comcast is launching a new RSN in Southeast Texas, with the Astros and Rockets as centerpieces. Had been announced with the name Comcast Sports Net Houston, though looks like that will change.
 
Well here comes another name change for Comcast Sports Net New England. Won't this be a third name change for many RSNs? for example CSNNE used to be known as FOX Sports Net New England.

If it went that way then yes, but you can cover up the NBC connection if it's just referred to as "Xfinity". Comcast buys advertising on NESN for Xfininity even though the main competition is Comcast SportsNet.

I suspect anything Comcast has a majority ownership in with sports television will somehow branded with the NBC name. Tough luck for them.
 
Comcast also has a stake in SNY, I believe around 11%. I don't know if the Mets have the ultimate say over that channel's name, being that they're currently in an ownership flux.
 
How about all FSN on Comcast systems be renamed to include NBC name in it like FSNKC would be NBC Sports Olathe/MO and FSN Florida would be NBC Sports Florida.

Can't be done, as they are not owned by Comcast.
 
Makes sense for the name change. It will help get the NBC Sports name out there. I can see the new logos being the NBC peacock logo with sports under it and with the city next to this logo. Also I don't see this change happening to SNY as NBC Universial only has a 11% stake in the network. Or The Moutain West Sports Network as Comcast only has 30%, CBS Sports and Moutain West Coference both have shares in the network as well.

Well...let's count! PRISM New England (as an offshoot of the Philly one) –> SportsChannel New England –> Fox Sports Net –> Comcast SportsNet –> NBC Sports NE.

That's four, actually.

Time Warner Cable also owns a significant stake in SNY, BTW.
 
don't forget when first re-branded as Comcast it was Comcast sportnet new England, now its just Comcast sports net
 
@Ken, @Raymie and others - I myself had been wondering how (if at all) this mandate would affect SNY. Since NBCU has a very minority stake in the network (with the Mets and Time Warner assuming the bulk of ownership) chances are that, if anything, there might be a logo change - look at the SNY logo and compare it to the average "Comcast Sportsnet" logo with the stretched arch. Either SNY will follow suit with whatever logo change is in store for the CSN nets, or go out on their own.

@danikayser - If SNY were to rebrand, one possible suggestion would be the "[Re]YES Network." :D
 
Same here. Used to be Fox Sports Bay Area, then Comcast Sports Bay Area now a possible third name as NBC Sports Bay Area. Almost like the renaming of AT&T Park. First it was Pacific Bell Park, then SBC Park and currently AT&T Park.
