Comcast to buy remainder of NBC Universal

They last sold WVTM, WNCN, WCMH, and WJAR to Media General back in 2006, but the selling of those were a bigger mistake than anything else considering 2 of those 4 markets are amongst the fastest growing DMAs. Hell, it's pretty bad in some of these markets because since then their ratings have been in the toilet because MG cannot run a news operation in a truly diverse DMA. FYI, Tampa-St. Petersburg isn't a "diverse" market at all.

Why not?

Also, I assume it's Raleigh and Columbus that are fast-growing.

Yep, Columbus and Raleigh/Durham/Fayetteville are the fastest growing medium size markets in the nation. Raleigh/Durham are now in the top 25. Also GE & Vivendi could have been more strategic about their spinning off of TV properties.

So if comcast is getting the GE building, does this mean they will be moving their headquarters from the comcast center in Philadelphia to 30 Rock?

Last I heard, there was a similar chime (although just one note) heard before TOH CBS News.

That sounder is better known as "the bong."

I remember when CBS used that sounder on TV. Even if they were running a movie at 9 pm and there was no break at 10, you would hear that "bong" at 10 sharp in the middle of a scene. I think it was a signal that local stations used to synchronize their clocks with the network.
I liked that "bong" as well as the pre-70s version of NBC's top-of-the-hour tone. I don't recall hearing a tone on ABC-TV though.

I doubt it. GE's headquarters to begin with is in Stamford, CT.

As to a previous post suggesting they buy back Universal Music, I doubt anyone seriously wants to invest in major record labels these days.

I see what you mean, regarding the changes in the music industry. I always wondered why Vivendi hung on to Universal Music when it sold the rest of the company to GE. I guess it was because U's video game business was part of the music division and they wanted to build on that.
Didn't Universal Music buy EMI last year? Or was that Sony?
