Companies known today for bad TV commercials who once had halfway decent ones

Another spin-off of the Worst Commercials thread after Geico forced my hand to make another contribution.

But how about companies who are now known for some of the worst ads (in our opinion) in existence who may have actually had at least halfway decent TV commercials in bygone days? Any of them actually out there?

Long before the gecko was conceived, Geico had halfway decent commercials, as these 1978 examples (one with Benny Goodman) indicate:

The Empire commercials aren't the same since Lynn Hauldren passed away last year. Whoever is doing the voiceovers now doesn't sound to me like he has the same enthusiasm as Lynn Hauldren did. I don't know how many markets Empire Today is in, but Chicago is the flagship market for Empire.

I agree with you! Even the old Geico ads in the late 90s (the coffee cups, the squirrel, etc.) were so much better than the Gecko or Maxwell.

Miller Lite. They haven't gotten it right since they stopped using the retired athletes, Rodney, & Uecker.

Coca-Cola. They used to have great slogans, like "Coke is it!" "Have a Coke and a smile," "Coke Adds Life," "Always Coca-Cola" and who could forget "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing" with all those then-youngsters up on the hillside. Even Bill Cosby telling us that New Coke tastes better than "old" Coke was better than this silly current campaign with the polar bears! ::)

By far, the best one Miller ever did was the Christmas one 30 years ago with the horse pulling the sleigh. Fortunately someone saved it and posted it to YouTube.

I think that was Budweiser and the Clydesdales.

I think there was a Miller holiday spot with a horse drawn sleigh...

Off topic, I always liked the Busch beer spot with the cowboy playing "Jingle Bells" on his harmonica.

McDonald's used to have a lot of memorable spots. Now, not so much. They've gone from stuff we still remember from 40 years ago "You Deserve A Break Today", "2 All Beef Patties", etc. to "Ba-da-da-da-daaa".

Carl's Jr. & Hardee's.

Their latest commercial is their typical sleazefest.

Way before, they used to have an animated Carl Karcher and Happy Star. They were innocuous if nothing else.

A comic I saw at The Comedy Store, and I wish I could remember his name, began his monologue with how much he hates Carl's Jr. commercials, and the audience went crazy with applause.

They do have good food, but I've felt kinda dirty being a customer.
