Confirmed: Sam Malone from 10 a.m. to noon on KTRH starting Sept. 26

Ken Hoffman spills the beans in Thursday's column: http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/features/3354401.

•Have you seen those stark black billboards around town with the white lettering ... "See ya! ... Soon!"
I'm guessing they're designed to get people talking about Sam Malone's new talk show on KTRH (740 AM).

"See ya!" was Malone's catch phrase for 12 years when he hosted a morning show on KRBE (104.1 FM). He left the station several months ago and has been sitting out a noncompete clause in his KRBE contract.

KTRH programming boss Ken Charles wouldn't confirm that he's behind the "See Ya!" billboards, but he sure didn't deny it, either.

"We eagerly await Sam's arrival on KTRH. If those billboards get people anticipating his new show, then I'm very happy," Charles said.

Malone's show will air 10 a.m.-noon on KTRH, starting Sept. 26.

I guess for now, this dispells the KHMX rumors.
I would have figured CC would use Sam to try and bolster ratings at one of its lower performing stations, but KTRH could definitely use a little help.

I still wonder like many others on this board as to what Sam will be discussing on his show.
If Sam didn't like doing a morning show at a radio station playing 50 Cent and Jessica Simpson, he could have found a way to leave a long time ago.
As several pointed out, he's still doing Gimme the Mike, which essentially is a pop singer competition.
I'm stumped.

C'mon, people. Read between the lines (or the lines that aren't printed)!!

Hoffman's column should also be noted for what is DOESN'T say. It doesn't say that he could also take over the Mix morning show. That's the potential big surprise. No reason (money, ego, PR for KC) that Malone won't do a 5a-9a Mix show and then walk a few booths down to do a 10a-12p KTRH show.

And who knows, KC could also be feeding Hoffman fake info about the KTRH show.

I watched give me the mike last night to see what he might say. All that was said was that he was coming back in 10 days and to keep a watch on his website. Clear Channel tends to clean house around Christmas. Maybe he'll start at KTRH and then add the KHMX duties around the holidays. Any thoughts or wishes on who a co-host would be?

As a total guess I would say Michele Fisher who recently exited from KRBE to "stay home with her family" and used to fill in for Maria from time to time would be a good fit.

Considering Blackhawk1 IS SAM MALONE, I would say that he is indeed going to be doing mornings at Mix. Does anyone really believe Clear Channel paid thAt kind of money to hire him for two hours on KTRH? Get ready for lame radio!

I predicted this a few weeks ago.

I wonder....

If Sam bothered to contact Outlaw Dave, Walton and Johnson, or Jim Pruett and ask them if it was a good Idea to move over to CC. He'll be on for 2 or 3 years then they'll can him like everyone else.

My $$ is on Natalie Fitzgerald/O'Neal, the current traffic girl and a Ken Charles fave. I predicted this one last month:

I guess to continue to say I am NOT Sam Malone is useless, because you don't believe me. But could dabomb be Roula? As you always post rude comments and think you are dabomb. Seems to fit

KTRH is a whole different animal than KLOL. If Sam's show gets ratings and maintains them over a long period of time, he'll have nothing to worry about. KLOL was on the decline when CC acquired them. CC did nothing to save the Rock format, but there are many big name talents that have been with the company for quite sometime and they are well taken care of. Susquehanna on the other hand, Sam's last employer, is in the middle of trying to sell all their stations. I don't think it would be wise for anyone to sign a new deal with them, until they know who is going to buy their stations and what their plans are. If Sam's show is successful, I don't think he will mind working for them.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not praising or defending CC. I have a lot of problems with what they do as a company, but they will take care of those who produce ratings.

Sam was just trying to look toward his future, and what would be best for him at this stage in his career. I think he also wanted to get away from Top 40 radio. <P ID="signature">______________
