And as the Ohio AP Broadcasters awards are about to be given out, if they haven't already, one can only guess how many awards WAKR will get this year.

Further...As Clear Channel still undergoes financial woes and keep cutting staff, is it only a matter of time before 1590 becomes "Northeast Ohio's News Authority"? ;)

Kudos to Ed and the rest of the news team who continue to prove live, local, in-depth radio news still exists. 8)

sean, ed and larry STILL set the standard for news reporting in NE Ohio, although Greg Saber comes close. All 3 REPORT the story rather than BECOME the story like sweater dan did before cbs dumped him.

don't forget to check in at ohiomediawatch.com for further ohio updates.

I agree, David. But they also set the standard for the rest of the state. The top-notch news people in Columbus over the years have been lost due to firings (John Remy), retirement (Don Alexander) or death (Sally Wagner). And Akron lost two good news people in Vince Duffy (a friend of mine from high school) and Pat Kennard, who both went on to greener pastures.

My internship was under Larry States, and Greg Saber was just starting out in radio news when I worked there.

I will admit it is better to cut checks to a radio station than receive checks from them.

And yes, I do check the Mighty Blog of Fun. Be sure to check us out since WVKO just started archiving podcasts of "What's What with Mike Cole" and "The Blue State Diner." You can hear me on the "Diner" podcast for last Saturday, April 19.

And you may find me as snarky as host and WVKO News Director Michael Alwood does. :D

Given recent cuts at not only CC, but WHBC as well, I'd say that it's a foregone conclusion in the Akron-Canton area. To borrow from a current restaurant ad campaign, "it's hard to research the competition when there isn't any." :-[

As a young guy, I've always looked up to Ed, and I'm really happy he's a vet who's still doing ground-breaking things, and keeping RCRG on the cutting edge. For the others looking to get into the business, Ed is a guy you should really pattern yourself after. There's nothing wrong with a guy who can connect the old school with the new school.

Good for the RTNDA.

And as George Bush would say, "Awesome choice RTNDA."
