Connector for TV monitor?

Hello all,

I realize that this is a forum for radio engineering, and so I apologize in advance if this is not the appropriate place for a question like this. I just wasn't sure where to begin, but I am hoping that someone here can at least point me in the right direction.

I have a 20" Panasonic TV monitor - Model CT-2084-Y, manufactured December 1996. It is only a monitor - it does not have a built-in tuner (not that a tuner would be of much use anyway, now that we are in the DTV era).

On the rear of this unit are all the audio/video inputs. The audio inputs are standard RCA connectors, but the video connectors are not (except for a lone S-Video input). Please take a look at this picture (sorry it's so blurry - I took this with my mediocre cell phone camera - I can provide a sharper picture if needed) --

I am in need of a connector that would allow me to plug in a standard RCA cable for the video as well (i.e. one end of the connector is the RCA input, and the other end connects to the Video input on the TV.) I used to have one, but it's been misplaced.

Does anyone know the name of this type of connector, and a place where I may be able to purchase one?
 
Correct, those are RCA connectors on top and BNC connectors on the bottom.
You might be able to also find an adapter to go from RCA to S-video which would allow you to connect a composite video cable into the S-video input.
 
BNC were common those days for video connectors,I have old monitors and vtrs with them also with uhf jacks on them,I picked up a good supply of bnc to rca adapters from a hamfest a couple years ago.good luck at the Shack,they might not know what in the hell what it is.

Please forgive my ignorance - what is the advantage of the connector being "oxygen free"?

Advantage for the Chinese connector company = $$

Advantage for YOU = NONE
 
BNC connectors are the "standard" for commercial service.
Unfortunately, many "prosumer" (and some professional) video monitors continue to feature RCA video connectors which break or pull away from theie solder pads when we connect a heavy video cable using an RCA to BNC adaptor.

Yeah I work with BNC for video at my church... our cameras, our connections we run between floors etc.. are all terminated with BNC ends.. Even the Sync and SDI cables we run for digital stuff terminate as BNC.. so much easier to work with and better than those RCA ends you find on consumer stuff.

Sorry about not adding a disclaimer. A lot of the over priced cables at "The Shack" have that kind of crap on the label. And their adaptors should NEVER never be used on mission critical connections.

OK good. Now I don't feel so bad about ordering one from Hong Kong (via eBay) for $0.99.

I fully agree. I've had them pull apart as well. They're okay if you plug them in once and leave them alone.

That's what I'm planning on doing...this TV resides in a guest room at my mom's house. Just want to make sure any potential visitors have some entertainment options.
 
Curious why you say "(not that a tuner would be of much use anyway, now that we are in the DTV era)" ?
How else would you watch TV? Especially now in the DTV era?
