South Dakota Connoisseur Sells Four in Minnesota & South Dakota

800 KQAD, which is now using a Classic Hits satellite feed, with no FM translator, is a real oddball. I'm surprised Alpha never tried adding an FM, or try a spoken word format. Especially, since this is a bedroom community of Sioux Falls, and the competition of signals.

EDIT: With Connoisseur taking over, KQAD is now simulcasting K101 Classic Hits.

I heard Christmas music playing over QAD’s stream via iHeart earlier today, complete with legal IDs.

Were they simulcasting K’s country format?

Are the sale of stations complete in this region of the country or can we expect Connoisseur to sell more stations?

I predict more are coming. Redwood Falls I can easily see going, but not sure about Albert Lea/Austin. Possibly pair them with the Mason City cluster? Otherwise, I’m not sure who else would get them - KQPR’s owners possibly?

They were Classic Hits prior to flipping to Christmas music, not sure when that happened. I thought K101 was also Classic Hits, my bad, it's Country. The website however does not provide a separate listen live for KQAD, only K101. In fact, except for the logo in the corner, there's no mention of KQAD on their new website with Connoisseur.

I also wonder, if the sale hadn't occurred, could a K101 simulcast have been in the works?

The new format on 800 is Christian. It's the CCM format on one of JOE'S HD channels that also feeds the 99.3 translator.

K101 will be taking the "KC Rocks" format that's also on a KJOE HD subchannel.

I don’t see them getting into southern Minnesota…yet. Judging by the other three sales Conni has announced, I sense someone more local could get those three.
Civic's only venture into Minnesota so far was the WELY stations, and that was because they were in danger of shutting down completely, due to the death of the manager, and needed a savior. And, seeing as WELY is not among their Wisconsin news-based outlets, or their typical music formats, they let them runj with a heavy local full-service approach.

Not sure if the Connoisseur stations would really fit them now. A March into rural Minnesota might be a bit much to chew on currently. But hey, what do I know?

I like rural Minnesota radio. Where else can you find rare Oldies, Classic Country, and Polka music, all on one radio station. K- Czech (KCHK) in where else...New Prague.
