Corpus stations mix it up over the 4th of the July weekend

KKBA was mixing all weekend and KZFM part of the weekend. They both sounded pretty good.

Dang! Even Corpus?... And market #5 did nada!

Yes, and probably the most interesting mixes were on the Rhythmic AC K-Bay which literally was mixing all weekend. Sister station KZFM also sounded good.

I actually made an aircheck of KKBA's mixing and will post a link on YouTube and this board in the near future. KKBA and KZFM's owner still aren't streaming.

Unbelievably bad. KBAY's 4th of July mix weekend was canned and repeated several times over the weekend. It seemed very last minute and the imaging (like regular promming) was weak and prooly produced. Can we retire Eric Edwards from this market.... PLEASE. Even though it wasn't billed as 'live"--- mixing from Hotel Califonia into Ke$sh just doesn't work. Come on Ed!!!

Hey, at least they gave effort. K104 and 97.9 didn't sh!t here in the DFDub!

I believe you've made your point. Anything to add to further the discussion? Is it a sign of things to come, or was it a one-time deal in Corpus Christi to fill air time over a long holiday weekend? What was the commercial load like?

Though I didn't listen to more than a few hours, I actually thought KKBA didn't sound too bad, it was something a bit different for the market and how many rhythmic ACs mix?. They do mix Saturday nights too now. I will post an aircheck and people can judge for themselves.

@fredcantu Watch yourself. You never know who you could be actually talking to.

Watch myself? I was merely trying to advance the discussion to see WHY stations in Corpus Christi would offer a block of mix programming while stations in Dallas decided against it... or perhaps never even considered it.

What's wrong with Eric Edwards. I've always liked his voiceovers, and now that many stations no longer use him, it stands out and sounds unique. But then again, I still prefer the old school, "big voice" guys over the bland, deadpan filtered type sweepers most stations have used over the past couple of decades. (Heck, I still think Mark Driscoll is the best voiceover guy ever, and I'd still use him in a minute if I had a station. Whether he's "out of style" or not).

Also, K-Bay is trying to target the adult Latino females who grew up on Hot Z95 in the 80s, 90s, and 2k, and Z95 always used for Eric Edwards for years. So why not use him on K-Bay to target former Z95 listeners? Seems like a very smart and logical move to me. Anyway, I've always liked Malkan's stations (Z95 and K-Bay), because they are not cookie cutter, and have always been unique in music and production, and very much customized to the Corpus market.

I agree about Eric Edwards. I find the monotone bland liners common on top 40 stations these days (Planet 102.3 is one example), pretty boring.

Good CLEAR voices never go out. Maybe their styles do. Agreed Mark Driscoll was and is still good. I just think Edwards is muddy. He sounded much more clearer back in the 80s when processing was not shredded much like digital is.

Digital killed the analog star?

DIGITAL killed QUALITY of music. Could be one reason why CDs died in the late 90s and just recently bad news for downloads. Its truly amazing what 99% of stations use for music. Ripped right into a hard drive. The data is squeezed and many of them are barely wave quality. 70s/80s CDs sounded pretty good. Now its hyper compressed. DISTORTION.
