Could a televised concert trump Trump's big day?

I'm sure they did. If I was hearing him on country stations here in New England, there's no reason that he wouldn't have been played in Phoenix. Maybe his rather bland string of hits after "God Bless the USA" just weren't memorable enough. He was one of those pop-country stars of the early/mid-'80s like Earl Thomas Conley, Crystal Gayle and Gary Morris who fell off the edge of the earth on radio in the late '80s when the New Traditionalists and, later, the "hat acts" took over. It's not a period well remembered by radio today, even by classic country stations or SiriusXM's Prime Country. The music must not test well. It's as though country music went right from Willie and Waylon to Garth and Brooks & Dunn overnight sometime around 1982, when actually it took the better part of a decade to transition that way.

Very interesting. ETC, Crystal Gayle and Gary Morris (my one hit wonder) were also favs of mine during that time. ETC got himself in big trouble here in PHX by showing up late and very drunk to a concert. I think that killed him with fans and businesses here. I still liked his music though.

Morris had several hits, including the original hit with "Wind Beneath My Wings" (before Bette Midler) and a gorgeous duet with Crystal called "Making Up for Lost Time." I hadn't heard the story about Conley's Phoenix concert, but if showing up drunk and late to concerts once were enough to kill an artist in a town, then George Jones and Tanya Tucker would have had no careers at all! (Disclaimer: I saw both George and Tanya here in Connecticut in the late '80s/early '90s and both put on excellent shows and were in fine voice, sober and right on time.) If I'm not mistaken, Morris took that powerful voice of his to Broadway after the country hits stopped coming.

NOBODY should be compared to Hitler unless they've killed 20 million people.

(kind of a sensitive issue for me.....have a friend who survived the Holocaust, and have
family involved with the National Holocaust Museum in DC)

Then how does one warn people of someone seen as a potential Hitler? Not saying Trump is that person, but to treat legitimate warnings based on historical precedent by dismissing them -- either with heartfelt, personal objections like yours or with snarky invocations of "Godwin's Law" -- risks letting a real threat rise to power unchecked.
 
It is important to know how history really went down, not as some use the First Amendment to allow the spinning and distorting and rewriting of history as it happened. The First Amendment lets us know that they are there too.

C-Span is re-airing the pre-inauguration welcome concert at the Lincoln Memorial. Very classy too, since they just set up their cameras and go away.

NBC Coverage begins at 10A ET, running to 4PM
CBS Expanded CBS This Morning from 7-10 ET, Inauguration coverage begins at 10 ET, running to 4PM. Some stations will break for local news at 1P ET/10A PT.
PBS NewsHour coverage aired from 11-2 ET, preempts PBS Kids shows on most member stations
FOX Coverage airs from 11a-4p ET
Fox News - Coverage airs from 11a-5p ET
CNN Coverage begins at 9A ET, running throughout the day with all of the Inaugural balls included. Wall to wall coverage.
MSNBC Coverage runs 10A-5P ET
CNBC Coverage runs 11A-3P ET

Some independent stations may run coverage. I know KCAL-9 LA is running coverage from 8-10AM PT. KUSI San Diego's coverage begins during Good Morning San Diego and runs until 11a PT.

Like I said, Hitler tried early on to overthrow the government in the Beer Hall Putsch, then wrote a book in prison outlining exactly what he planned to do once in power.

Has Trump ever done anything like that? Is there any evidence that Trump has any such plans or designs?

If anyone can produce even ONE example of ANYBODY comparing him to Hitler prior to 2016, I'll eat my words.

You don't have to love or support the guy to realize that comparisons to Hitler are grossly unfair.
 
Rush has a 10-second delay. I turned down the sound so I could hear his comments, as I have done the past few years. I found out too late his show started early.
 
Yeah. Not that I wanted to hear them, but where were 3 Doors Down? And Lee Greenwood?

All I heard were The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Jackie Evancho and a group that lived near one of the speakers. And a military band. Now THAT'S music.
 
Funny how two people can watch the same thing and see things differently.

C-SPAN has always been the place to watch DC events without commentary. That's why it's there.

People don't want objective coverage. If they did, C-SPAN would get more viewers than Fox.

One thing CNN did more often than anyone else was to stop talking and "Let's listen to what's going on." So CNN was actually trying to be more like C-SPAN. But that's boring.
 
I like watching the Senate on CSPAN2. like last night, the guy who was filling in for the vice president kept saying "The senate will come to order!" that can be entertaining sometimes
