Could Bonneville flip 100.3 and make it talk radio with Adam Corolla and Tom Lyc

Bonneville could flip the sound and make it talk radio with hosts Adam Corolla and Tom Lycis. They could also have Hydie,Frosty and Frank.

Could Bonneville make this move?

no, it won't happen in the economy right now, its like what tom leykis said, with a talk format you have more people working then a music format, it won't happen right now

I don't think Bonneville with it's Mormon roots would take too kindly to Leykis' "misogynist shtick". Does Bonneville even have any stations with a Hot Talk format?

Bonneville does have KIRO/KSL and other FM N/T stations but not hot talk. They have invested a lot of dough into the "Sound" and as mentioned, with its Mormon roots, ain't no way in hell, or heaven, depending upon your perspective.

BONNEVILLE has the money to do whatever they want.

However, Bonneville is here for one of two reasons which we are still waiting to find out.

OPTION 1) USE KSWD AS LEVERAGE
See, Bonneville could potentially exit the LA market like they have done before. This time flipping a LA signal to an operator like Citadel in exchange for additional stations in another market such as Washington DC. They could flip it to another operator for straight up cash. Right now the stick is nothing more than real estate. They spent 130Million on a station that would typically sell for upwards to 200Million. Talk about an investment! Sit on it for a while, collect some free money and spin it off once the markets start to gain footing again.

OPTION 2) USE KSWD AS A TAX WRITE OFF
Bonneville is no stupid operator by any means. The signal while not doing great in PPM does make a little money. With them being the #1 or #2 owner operator concerning income in every other market, Los Angeles is completely a freebie for them. Use this signal as a tax write off and call it a day.

KSWD cannot be making money if the revenue numbers I heard last week are true as no L.A. station can be run for that amount of money.

As Danny stated each of the KLSX hosts were being paid "morning show" salaries and so I don't think we'll ever see all of the gang together on one station again. No station in today's economy has that much money to spend on morning, afternoon and drive time talent.

There is no station today worth $200 million in LA, particularly one with a weaker signal. KSWD is probably worth about $90 million today.

And the myth of the tax write-off is absurd. Nobody needs more expenses today, as most markets are off 20% to 40% in revenue... All business expenses are "written off" against income to get net taxable income, so there is no advantage here.

Companies like Univision and Clear Channel are so overleveraged, that within the next few years each will default on the bondholders. Neither will ever be able to repay the absurd amounts that were agreed upon for those companies. The two worst poster childs of overpaying for over-the-air broadcast companies in history.

Re: Could Bonneville flip 100.3 and make it talk radio with Adam Corolla and Tom

Since CBS Radio is paying out Leykis anyway, why not flip KFWB to entertainment/talk? They're already pulling back on news at KFWB; what's the point of even keeping KFWB news, since they've got KNX. Maybe stick with news/entertainment in the morning, but then go with the Triplets/Leykis in midday and afternoon... and either Tim Conway in the evening or, to save a few extra $$$, something syndicated...

Not nearly as bad Peak Broadcasting out of Fresno:

Do you really think those that listened to KLSX even know what AM radio is?

Don't try to compare a small company headed by a former Tucson readio general manager to the massive debt that Univision and Clear Channel have to service.

Yes, I do, it's not like KLSX was an 18-34 station. And I do think these hosts have enough of a following that some -- not all, some -- would follow them to AM. Leykis has even said he'd be willing to return to AM. They're paying him, so why not put him to work?

I know. I saw him say it and I posted it. Do you really think they're going to blow up KFWB for that kind of talk on an AM station? If they were going to do it, it would already have been done.

Also, don't forget, they have Angels baseball. That would sideline him many dates from April through September.

Leykis will be paid until he finds another gig but remain off the air. Then they'll be glad to release him from his contract.

If you listened carefully to the words Bob Moore used on Thursday and Friday on KLSX, it's quite obvious he'd love to have his former staff on KLOS. We'll see.

Hey, KCRW has taken up the "Indie" moniker, and hired Henry Rollins. Maybe they can get another 'boost' (and get a gain on KUSC and KPCC) by taking on some KLSX guys. They could call the 9am show "Morning Becomes Obnoxious," and replace the afternoon NPR feed with "All Things Adolescent." They could change the fund drive "incentives" of trips to Napa and Paris as well.......make them a night at the Santa Monica Hooters, or a free Girls Gone Wild DVD. :D

Re: Could Bonneville flip 100.3 and make it talk radio with Adam Corolla and Tom

I noticed that KCRW had suddenly started referring to its "Indie Music." Then last week, they shifted to called it "Independent Music." Wonder if the Entravision lawyers picked up the phone...

Since EL GATO pulled over twice the listeners in 10 days than INDIE did - I would say probably not worth the legal fees.

Re: Could Bonneville flip 100.3 and make it talk radio with Adam Corolla and Tom

Ah, the good Doctah believes that Indie's audience was accurately measured. Funny.
