Could Family Radio (Harold Camping's Stations) Be For Sale?

Nathan Obral said:
What's a definitive is that Harold will soon go to the Great Inaccurate Calendar In The Sky (we call it Hell).

If the soul of Harold is in trouble because he has a less than perfect understanding of End Times Theology, then logic would indicate that there are a LOT OF US in trouble!!!

When you look around and see all the variations in how People of The Faith express what is yet to come it is something on the order of breath taking.

He is apparently a man who indeed has the mindset of an engineer... wanting all the square pegs in square holes, round pegs in round holes. It will be interesting to see if a man of this mindset has set up an orderly process for the future not only of the broadcast ministry but for his personal and business wealth. But, I guess like the rest of us, he can do as he jolly well pleases about planning such future issues and directions.

I won't question Camping's salvation. In an earlier post (Don't ask me where since there are so many threads on this.) it was mentioned that as long as we have the basics right (Jesus is God's son, he came and died for our sins so we could have eternal life) that we can differ on side issues like the end times.

I believe Camping's teaching's are totally insane, and that he will face God (likely very soon) and have to answer for his teachings and the consequences of them. But only God is the judge of where he spends eternity, not us.

Granted, there are some people we can say are probably in Hell if they died without changing their lives and accepting Jesus (Terrorists, Atheists, etc.) but that's a whole other topic for another thread, and possibly not on this board. But it's not our place to question the salvation of Christian preachers who have the basics right but are way off on side issues. We can speak out and say their teachings are false, but only God deternines their eternal destiny.

No matter what the religion, there are disagreements among the faithful as to what are the basics (that one must get right) and what are the side issues.

I recently asked my favorite Buddhist if they were segmented into groups and fragments (denominations?) like the Christians are? The reply: Particularly in the U.S., there are probably more "brands" of Buddhits than there are groups of Baptists. I found that a bit breathtaking.

The conversation that "fell out" of that question has been ongoing. In the United States we "slice and dice" religious thought in ways that does not even seem to cross the minds of people in other parts of the world.

That is what makes it both a challenge and an opportunity to figure out what to do with a station doing religious broadcasting. Do you become "all things to all people" and put faith-oriented content out their like a big buffet? (That seems to be the role of CCM stations and other music oriented religious stations.) Do you become the voice of orthodoxy narrowing down you program content to only allow content which is "correct on it's basics"? (That seems to be the rold of preach-and-teach stations.) It would be hard to work into this conversation what kind of philosophy guides the content of "brokered time" religion stations. They tend to be beyond explanation.

So where do the Camping stations fit into this big picture? I read a lot of posts by people telling how much they like the music on Family Radio. But he does not appear to be content with music which can be all things to all people. He also wants to speak out and declare his version of the basics.... which has led us to all this conversation here in the forums.

There is an article in The Christian Post that Camping was offered $1 million to sell all his stations. The group in question has asked again about selling all the Family Radio Stations for $1 Million Dollars.

I don't know that offer and that article carry any integrity. $15,000 per radio station?

There is another flaw with the who scenario: what constitutes a radio station? I went to the FCC ownership report last filed by the Camping organization and there are not 65 radio stations, but including the satellites, satellators and whatever, there are 165 licenses at stake. That brings the offer down to about $6,000 per license.

Sounds like the people making the offer have about the same amount of integrity that the public thinks Camping has.

It appears that the people who offered Family Radio a million dollars, A Bible Answer, had a lot of integrity. How much are the stations worth to Camping when he has been raptured. From what I read, they did not want possession until he was gone (raptured with all of Family Radio). And, A Bible Answer has continued the offer and not wanting possession until October 22, the day after the world ends. They don't want the stations, they are attempting to reveal the real attitude of Camping and his followers. Family Radio and Camping must not believe what they preach or else they would sell the stations and take the money to promote their belief. They have also called for Camping to be ousted from the board of Family Radio.

I'm thinking if "the people who offered" truly had integrity... you would be able to go to their website and read who they are, how they can be reached, what their goals are. This appears to be a new web site, a site that has not been completed. The site has no integrity. They throw out a lot of "Christianity buzzwords" but "no solid food" to borrow from a metaphor used by The Apostle Paul in his writings.

Normally the only people with legitimate standing to call for a board to oust an officer would be people who are part of the organization. Are "the people who offered" a rump group within the Camping organization who are trying to overthrow the king?

Normally there can be a second group of people with legitimate standing to call for change. That would be people adversely affected by the actions of the leader. These would be people who are not part of the organization that needs to change, but feel the organization has unfairly or illegally affecting their lives.

If "the people who have offered a million dollars" have integrity, then they will stand up and identify themselves, and share with the rest of us that they have a theological difference with Camping and this "offer" is just a sham... a canard if you please.

And this being Saturday, I would not expect you to take time out from your day of worship to do something trivial like post to a discussion board.

In A Bible Answer's million dollar offer at http://abibleanswer.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=78&Itemid=36 they say "We are thankful for Family Radio. They play good Christian music and read from the King James Bible." and later they say "We will be presenting the gospel truth, the same conservative Christian music, Bible readings from the King James Bible."

I haven't seen enough on their website to really show what they believe, but it appears they make a big issue over music and Bible translations. Having a preferance for conservative (traditional) Christian music and the KJV isn't the problem, but when they start to use their platform to make those into a divisive issue and preach against CCM and push KJV onlyism, that's when they've gone too far, and it makes me wonder where else they'd be off base on.

I'd think though that they're only fooling themselves if they think that Camping would sell all his stations for $1 million, and whether they admit it or not Camping will hold on to the stations after Oct. 21, and they already have plans for what to do. All he'll do is to reset the date and his followers will still buy into it. I've said before that I hope Camping will get better physically, but I hope he's off the air for good.

I've said before that the real answer for getting rid of Camping is for a donor revolt to demand that he be put out permanently.

With the stroke, I'm thinking Camping, and the organization, are pretty much out of the end of the world business. I think they got out as soon as the date came and went. There wasn't even any on-air fanfare on "the day of". Just soft music and regular programming.

One million is laughable....The NYC and DC stations alone can bring multi-millions

There's nothing wrong with preferring hymns over praise or CCM. Each person is unique and what they can relate to musicwise will determine what would be worshipful music that they'd be comfortable with. So there's nothing wrong with a Christian radio station playing music for that audience, especially as those folks are paying (donating) their own money to Family Radio to hear that music.

...

I can understand how younger folks don't get hymns or even older praise music, but that doesn't make those forms of worship music not valid as there are people today, who get blessed by it.

...

Not intended as a shot at modern CCM, but the question can't help but be asked, will people still be listening and coming to Christ 400-500 years from now by what's being played on CCM radio today?

So maybe some of you might want to listen to some J.S. Bach via CD or your local Classical Music NPR station, etc, to hear what's captured the Japanese youth and is being used to bring them to Christ. There's more than one way to worship and honor our Lord, be it DC Talk, Michael W. Smith, or J.S. Bach.
I'm one of the people who doesn't get today's Christian music, so this makes sense. I can't judge that the music is "not as valid" as mine, but it repels me rather than attracting me.

I only see it as valid in the sense the message is more positive than other so-called music that young people want to hear, and it does attract young people who would never accept my music.

Is CBS buying back 610 AM look at Mr Camping's history in San Francisco he used to be on 97.3 FM before it became KCBS, later KRQR and KLLC 97.3 FM and at one time he owned 106.9 fm Before CBS sold 610 AM and bought 106.9 for Free fm then KFRC and now KCBS.
Here's what should happen to 610 AM: San Francisco needs an over-the-air station where people can hear the song "I Left My Heart in San Francisco".

That happened in 1986-1991 when 610 AM was Magic 61.

Then it's time to bring back the magic. I heard the song recently.

That's as good a reason as any for someone else to make a business decision.

Lets hope 610 Am does not post new "Judgement Day" Billboards on San Francisco Area Freeways on November and December.
