Could Latino 102.7 be poised to Compete with 96.7/102.3?

There are a couple of factors that I think Emmis should consider like moving to a stronger frequency if they are really going to put effort in this station. Looks like they now have a 5 o'clock quick mix called Latino Street Mix with none other than DJ 2DQ and Id say 90% of the mix is english dance music. They now have on air personalities and commercial segments. The overall playlist has quite a lot of english songs mixed in to rotation which opens up a crossover market. It also leans heavily Dance and I also love the heavy caribbean influence with the Salsa, Merengue and Bachata tracks which gives it a very Miami feel to the station, something that Austin has been lacking as we do have a good size Caribbean latin population here and it is growing.

Could Latino 102.7 pull off enough listeners from 96.7 and Hot102.3 for them to be more worried or at least be more competitive? What about the limited signal of 102.7 and would Emmis consider moving it to a more powerful frequency if it brings in a good amount of revenue and listeners?

I am interested to see if they plan to have weekend club mix shows which we desperately need on the analog FM dial.

Revenue will be the deciding factor. The previous format did pretty well in the ratings considering the 250 watt signal. But the revenue wasn't there.

If Emmis thinks there is an opportunity with CHR in Austin, don't you think it would make more sense to move one of the more limited appeal formats to the translator (like KGSR) that has less competition and put the CHR on the larger full power signal?

I don't think they are going to try to chase Kiss with a 250 watt translator, that does not reach much out of Austin proper.

For what it is worth, Emmis already ran a Rhythmic CHR in Austin with Hot 93.3 a number of years ago and pulled the plug on it (I know, I know, that was pre PPM days).

Hahahahahahahahahaha In that case, my blow dryer at home is 1500 watts and has better chance of knocking off Kiss! LOL

It would make more since for Emmis to move Latino 102.7 to 101.5 if going after KHFI, or KPEZ for that matter, and move 101x to 93.3x and place KGSR's format on 102.7.

I can pick up 101.5 a lot clearer in South Austin than 93.3

It is easier to pick up 101.5 in Dove Springs, vs. 93.3

I agree with all points mentioned above. IMO the station sounds great. It is something Austin has needed for a bit, they seem to have a good amount of commercials but time will tell their cash inflow. I think Emmis should consider moving the station to a powerful signal but I would expect they would want to wait about 6 months to a year to see what they get on the current frequency. All I can say is I love this station, it is my second favorite local station behind Mega of course. Very Miami sounding. This is coming from someone who doesn't know spanish well but I love Salsa & Merengue. I also love other Caribbean, Central and South America Spanish music plus they throw in English songs as well!
