Could Scripps and Paramount Global join a joint agreement with the both the Pistons and Red Wings?

During the final weeks of the 2023-2024 NHL and NBA seasons, WMYD has carry a handful of Pistons and Red Wings games (They carry 5 of the final 8 Pistons games while the final 3 Red Wings games were simulcast via Bally Sports Detroit Extra)

These final 3 Wings games were on WMYD went to both overtime and shootout. The Wings finished 41-32-9, (Perfect 3-0 on WMYD games) they first non-losing season since 2016, finished the tied with Washington Capitals with 91 points but they would end up missing the playoffs for the 8th straight season due to they more wins than Washington. As for the Pistons, they finished another worst record in the NBA at 14-68 (0-5 on WMYD games), including a 28-game losing streak earlier in the NBA season and back-to-back 60 plus loss season since the early 1980s.

Bally Sports contract with both teams has recently expired last week and they a possibility of they not renewed amid of the Bally Sports bankruptcy. It could emerge from bankruptcy by mid-June and the future of the Pistons and Red Wings is up in the air.

Paramount Global, the parent company of CBS owns WWJ (CBS affiliate) and WKBD (An independent station, who recently dropped the CW late last year) and EW Scripps Company own WXYZ (ABC affiliate) and WMYD (CW affiliate; soon-to-be return to an independent station later this year) could pick up 2 Detroit Sports teams as soon as the 2024-2025 NHL and NBA season begins this fall.

If Bally Sports don't reach a deal with Amazon by mid-June, they will be shut down and both the Wings and Pistons could be headed to a joint agreement with Paramount Global and Scripps Sports.

In the part of the deal (If Bally shuts down)

Scripps Sports will air:
-Pistons games on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday night non-nationally televise game as well as the first 3 months on Sundays afternoon and night as well as a weekly replay game, and a weekly show on the ABC affiliate WXYZ.
-Red Wings games on Monday, Wednesday, Friday night, Saturday afternoon (before 6:00 pm; expect for games were scheduled to feature on the national ABC games as part of the NHL on ESPN package) as well as on Sundays during the final 3 months of the season as well as weekly replay game and a weekly show on the ABC affiliate WXYZ.

Paramount Global (CBS) will air:
-Pistons games on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday night non-nationally televise game as well as on Sundays during the final 3 months of the season as well as a weekly magazine show and a year-round magazine show.
-Red Wings games on Tuesday and Thursday nights as well as Saturday nights only (after 6:00 pm) except for games that are scheduled to feature in Primetime NHL games on ABC as well the first 3 months of the NHL season on Sundays as well as a weekly magazine show and a year-round magazine show

Note: Both weekly shows would air on CBS affiliate WWJ when it doesn't carry a early or late afternoon NFL game on Sundays.

Could a deal be reach before the both the NBA and NHL drafts in June? Stay tuned...

First of all, Comcast dropped Bally Sports for over a month now and now they did am emergency hearing on Tuesday to whenever or not if they keeping their teams' contract with Bally Sports. If don't get out of bankruptcy by July 29th, they will be going out of business.

The defending Stanley Cup Champions, Florida Panthers are off of Bally Sports and switches to free TV. Scripps Sports is now home of 3 NHL teams: Vegas Golden Knights (That team won the Stanley Cup last year), Utah Hockey Club (Formerly Arizona Coyotes), and now the Florida Panthers (That team was recently won the Stanley Cup). So far Scripps Sports is also home of the WNBA and NWSL and no deal yet for any NBA teams.

As the Diamond Sports Group confirmation hearing is coming up at the end of this month, could Bally Sports continue to operate and rebrand or they will be shut down?

If Bally Sports shuts down, all the remaining sports teams are switching to free TV, streaming services or both.

Gray, Tenga, Nexstar, Scripps, CBS/Paramount, Allen Media Group, Hubbard, Sinclair, and more could acquire NBA and NHL teams while MLB will produce teams since they already produced 3 teams.

Paramount Global has carried some NHL games during the 2023-24 season. I would expect Paramount Global could produce NHL teams full time during the 2024-25. No NHL teams has acquired Paramount Global just yet as an announcement could be revealed in the coming days, weeks, and months.

As the Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars are no longer with Bally Sports, all eyes on either the Pistons or Red Wings could be next in line to be off of Bally Sports due to the Diamond Sports Group ongoing bankruptcy.

They no sign of heard the news about the Dallas Stars terminated their contract with Bally Sports amid the company's ongoing bankruptcy or end up on free TV and launch their own streaming services.

According to reports that Bally Sports Detroit could be shut down if things don't turn around the chapter 11 bankruptcy by July 30th. If Bally Sports Detroit shuts down by August 1st, Tigers games would take over by MLB during the final 2 months of the regular season and Red Wings and Pistons games would have to be moving to WMYD and/or WKBD.

Here going to happen if Bally Sports Detroit gets shut down:
- Tigers games will return to the MLB.
- WMYD TV 20 (do set to disaffiliate from the CW on September 1st) could take Red Wings games on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and some Saturday afternoons games expect for games that are scheduled to be appearing on ESPN, ABC, TNT, or ESPN+ will not be airing on TV 20. As for the Pistons, those games will be airing on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays nights expect for those games are scheduled to be appearing on ESPN, ABC, or TNT will not be airing on TV 20.
- WKBD (Detroit 50) could take Pistons games on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays nights for non-nationally televise games. As for the Red Wings, they could be carrying non-nationally televise games on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturday nights.
-During the first 3 months of the current seasons on Sundays, Red Wings to WMYD and Pistons to WKBD.
-During the last 3.5 months of the seasons on Sundays, Pistons to WMYD and Red Wings to WKBD.

One item to consider:
WKBD's distribution is better than that of WMYD.

YouTubeTV, Hulu Live TV, FUBO and DirecTV Now all carry WKBD. I believe Frndly is the only streaming service that carries WMYD.

Will that matter to the teams? Probably not. They'll go wherever they're wanted and wherever they can get the best deal.

My prediction is the Tigers and Wings land at WMYD if Bally's Sports Detroit folds and that the Pistons land elsewhere (WKBD, WADL or WPXD).

I don't think the Tigers and the Red Wings is going to WMYD and the Pistons to WKBD, WADL, or WPXD. WADL is owner by an independent ownership and WPXD is owned by Inyo Holdings. Frndly, YouTube TV, Spectrum, Xfinity, and Fubo carried WMYD and YouTube TV, Hulu Live TV, Fubo, DirecTV stream, Spectrum, and Xfinity carried WKBD. Only 3 MLB teams has distributed by the league and could be more MLB teams like the Minnesota Twins could be interesting of taking over production of the MLB. The Pistons could launch their own FAST Streaming service in the entire state of Michigan, parts of Northeast Ohio

Rumors: Bally Sports Detroit could be shut down by August 1st if Comcast unable bringing back Bally Sports according to Cord Cutters News this morning.

We don't going to happen to the Tigers, Red Wings, and Pistons.

If Bally Sports Detroit gets shut down on August 1st, MLB could be taking over the production of the Tigers during the final 2 months of the 2024 season, cost free for first 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, it cost $54.99 for the final 2 months of the current season.

ABC affiliate WXYZ, which is owned by Scripps could be making a major announcement sometime either next week or the following week on either the Pistons or Red Wings will be coming to WMYD, which is current carried the CW and do set to disaffiliate the CW on September 1st. Scripps owner 2 Fox affiliates in Lansing and Grand Rapids and more cities that owned by Scripps could be carrying the games. Also one of the teams will be launching DTC streaming service for fans that $6.99 per game or $69.99 per season.

CBS affiliate WWJ is an owner-and-operation station could be making a major announcement some point next week for two on either one of the teams could be coming to WKBD, which it was disaffiliate from the CW late last year. An unknown Detroit sports team could be available on Paramount Plus for viewers in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Wisconsin. It's cost $5.99 for essential, $6.99 for Paramount+ with Showtime, and $11.99 without ADS.

We will keep you informed if any new developments.

Update: I know that WKBD will be headed back to the CW on September 1st as part of agreement that 2 stations owned by CBS will be joining the CW. So as of results of WKBD could not be favored of getting the Pistons or Red Wings if Bally Sports shuts down. Scripps could land the Red Wings and Adell could land the Pistons.

The Pistons are on the list of 1 of 5 NBA teams could be dropping out of Bally Sports if they emerge from bankruptcy. The other 4 are Mavericks, Grizzlies, Pelicans, and Thunder.

Scripps Sports might be the favorite of getting them. Kevin Adell is the 2nd favorite and WKBD is the third favorite of getting them even despite of rejoining the CW next month. If neither these 3 getting the Pistons by the time of the 2024-2025 NBA season, the team could launch their own FAST streaming service for fans will be able to watch, similar to the Dallas Stars, who will be launching their own FAST streaming service called Victory+.

Not really. It just means WKBD is less likely to be a partner with either the Wings, Pistons or Tigers.

I think the Wings and Tigers will continue to air nearly all games on Bally's.

The Pistons, whose games often get "bumped" to an alternate Bally's cable channel when there is a conflict with the Wings, would be the team most likely to head elsewhere. WMYD and WADL would be the most likely landing spots, although WKBD and even WPXD cannot be ruled out. I think it would be a mistake for the Pistons to go stream-only. The fan support isn't strong enough; most people aren't going to go out of their way to watch Pistons telecasts. Streaming should be used to supplement linear broadcast availability, in their case, not replace it.

Once WKBD is rejoining the CW on September 1st, they will be carrying live national sporting events from the CW but they can still carrying live local sports of either one of three major sports teams in Detroit. They can preempted the CW program until overnight because of a local sporting event, just like WMYD, they preempted the CW program back in April of this year for a local sporting event involving the Pistons and Red Wings.
