Could "Simpsons" be a victim of budget cuts at Fox?

Per this Yahoo news report, Fox is claiming they may not be able to afford additional seasons of "The Simpsons," with cast and crew being asked to take 30 percent pay cuts:

Also an interesting comment in that article about a suggestion for a "Simpsons Channel." I would like to see that (provided they show every Simpsons episode, and maybe throw in some of the Tracey Ullman shorts)--but how long would it take for the "Simpsons Channel" to rebrand into the likes of another "Adult Swim"-esque network (or even add anime like "King of the Hill," "Futurama," and classic "Family Guy").

How are the Simpson's doing in the ratings game? I didn't see it listed on the premier week post. I was never much of a dedicated fan or viewer, but what I have seen of the shows from last season it wasn't worth watching. The show is over 20 years old. I think the show faded out somewhere in the late 90s and doesn't seem to have the same appeal that it used to, unless I outgrew that stage of life.

Im a fan of the show (the early years when the show was actually funny). But really this show has reached its peak and its time to retire. Does anybody still watch it?? Ill tune in for the Halloween episodes but its not funny anymore. BTW they can take Family Guy too.

This time I think they will pull the show.

They have re-launch of THE FLINTSTONES coming up, plus a strong slate of other animated comedies now on,or about to air.

The show has ran out of ideas. It is time to cancel the show.

It isn't close to being out of ideas, it's out of decent writers to come up with them. If you visit any Simpson fan site you can see board posters, post hundreds of good story ideas that have never been done, yet the writers of "The Simpsons," repeat the same ideas for some reason.

If you listen to DVD commentaries one thing is clear, the writers of shows have never watched the series from day one and it's surprising to hear them talk as the only thing they know about the show is the episode they are limited to writing.

So it definitely is not a lack of ideas, but lazy writing. This was seen when Lisa made the comment, "When you're on for so many years, you're bound to repeat yourself." This is totally wrong, and it's a slap in the face to Simpsons fans, when writers take a valid and legitimate complaint and dismiss it with a statement. And a wrong statement at that. Sure in the old days, you could forgive "Bewitched" or "Lucy" for repeating themselves. The writers didn't have Internet access with near instant episode summaries at their fingertips. Now we do. There's no reason to repeat yourself now.

"The Simpsons" is no longer the powerhouse it once was. So far this season, it has averaged 7.1 million viewers. That is a sharp drop of nearly 20% from five years ago, when "The Simpsons" averaged 8.7 million viewers. Among the coveted adults ages 18 to 49 category, "The Simpsons" ratings have fallen 17%.

Im still surprised The Simpsons are not on cable after all these years. KTTV keeps adding 2 episodes a day, 3 episodes a day when they dont have enough syndicated shows or when one leaves like Malcom in The Middle a few years back. I would figured FX would air some episodes. How many episodes of Two and A Half Men can we take?

I dunno about FX but KTTV has never aired Two & A Half Men to keep the thread into perspective. It was only until this recent newly syndicated cycle that The Simpsons got reduced to only 2 episodes each weeknight with episodes aired non-concurrently. The Big Bang Theory is now holding court against Two & A Half Men on KTLA in the 7p-8p hour which traditionally have been The Simpsons for many many MANY years.

It's a changing of the guard. The Simpsons have been around as long as FOX has been a network. That's a really good run for a show. A really LONG run for a show that's been showing it's age for quite a while.

Family Guy, South Park and American Dad will never see such longevity in syndication.

I never said Two and a Half Men aired on KTTV. When I made that comment about Two and Half Men it was towards FX. They now air Two and Half Men like 4 or 5 times a day on that cable channel. They treat it as the best sitcom of all time.

I hear they're planning to cut the number of producers in the opening credits from 40 to 39! :D

Thought FG would go the Simpsons route with the incessant celebrity cameos but they're not that bad.

Simpsons. Celeb cameos. NSYNC. Shark. Jumped. Need I write more?
