Could the end of the Sport Chix be near?

http://www.bizjournals.com/tampabay/stories/2008/03/10/daily16.html?f=et83&ana=e_du

It seems the original Hooters gang that has been underwriting this trainwreck of a radio program is selling out their interests including the restaurants they own throughout the Tampa area and Florida.

I highly doubt the new owners will see the need to provide a place to play everyday for the girls. They have never made much money for the group and their true value as a promotional vehicle for the chain is questionable. But their loyalty and hard work over the years has been rewarded by the original owners. Soon the owners will be no more.

Are they still on the air? (kidding)

My favorite show was in the beginning on 620 when B.L. said you’re listening to Hooters on the G__ D___ Radio.

Soon after the franchise side of the business parted ways with the radio show.

Still, it’s my favorite brokered radio show. And the sweet ladies never try to get me to come to a free seminar or buy a car.

yeah, the early days on 620 were a "hoot"!

Brokered radio don't get any better than the Sport Chix.

theyll still have the NCAA March/April Madness..and of course our hometown baseball team the (New York) Yankees...but with no NASCAR...the summer looks pretty bleak.

and, no ..USF baseball isnt going to help.

But I am going to miss our No. 1 Yankee apologist, Mike Pepper. His daily insight into the greatness of the NY Yankees will be greatly missed.

My apologies for the sarcasm. I do listen to 1010; but not the Sport Chix. Tom K., Bobby Fenton, and the syndicated SNR programming will be missed should they change format yet again.

When Ron and Ron went to 620 and Lassiter went back to afternoons, I thought WSUN began their decline. When the Hooters Bimbos took over the 10-2 slot, the station jumped the shark. They should have left Lassiter in the morning and WIOD the rest of the day.

The station had its best numbers with Ron and Ron in the morning -- and actually beat WFLA 25-54 by a hair in one book 6a-Mid. The one just before it folded! ???

Lassiter was not used to his best effect on WSUN. I liked Neil's show as well but Ron & Ron and the Hooters show outdrew them in this town. I thought the chix had potential at the time, but they never got much real direction after their 620 days.

Again, WSUN's best days in the ratings were just before the end -- so it's hard to argue that they "jumped the shark".

It's worth nothing that 620 was the first place people in this market heard shows like Phil Hendrie (twice), Cigar Dave, Clark Howard and Dr. Laura.

By the time Ron and Ron arrived at WSUN, they were on the decline as a duo. Tampa may have been too conservative a market for a gay, atheistic Jew like Neil Rogers. If you look at the quality of the product, I still believe the station's best days were before the re-tooling. That lineup also included Randi Rhodes, whom I always considered to be unlistenable.
Regarding Neil, I think he would have been more suitable for Real Radio in Orlando.
