Country music, iPods, satellite radio & the Jersey Shore

Being a radio geek I like to scan the dial, particularly the low end of the dial where people use those little FM transmitters in their car to transmit their iPod/sat radio/etc.

So far this summer, here at the Jersey Shore, I have found that about 90% of the music people are playing on these devices in their cars is Country!

This is shocking considering that here in Southern Ocean County we get strong local signals from WPUR & WKMK as well as a good signal off WXTU.

That is three Country music stations that come in well in the car (two of which are very strong and will easily stop the SEEK button on any car rado) and people are still listening to Country music via their sat radios/iPods instead!

Are these stations doing something wrong? Why aren't Country music fans listening to FM?

Welcome to the future of listener's agenda. I guess that crowd just gave up on terrestrial and plugged in the new gadgets. I found a couple of people have internet stations set on 87.9 in Long Branch and picked up someone play Christopher Titus on 104.7 in Brielle.

The people like me who thought country is coming back to NYC anytime soon are fooling themselves---it is too late for us-----alternate media have been embraced by lots of country fans.

My educated geek guess is that many of these people are coming from up North, so they don't know of WXTU, WKMK or WPUR, all of which do a good job in the Country format. They gave up on terrestrial radio after the Y107 quadcast died, and went to the iPod or SatRad.

Since I got SatRad for the car, the only time I use terrestrial radio is for talk radio (Limbaugh, Lou Dobbs, and Steve Malzberg) that isn't carried on SatRad. It's well worth the money!

I think--especially under the current economic conditions--a lot of people who have satellite are thinking, "I'm paying for this, I'm sure as heck going to get my money's worth out of it."

I've said this many times on the New York Top 20 Markets board....you all have to band together as fans to get an idea of who is out there and unite as one in terms of making yourselves heard to these radio corporations.

I think country music has a big enough audience in New York City. You just all have to get together to make something happen because, and a quote I go with"

"If you do nothing, then nothing happens"

You must have one hell of an antenna in your car Jshore Thunder starts to static around Jackson and dies by the time you make it to great adventure. As for Cat Country, unless you're below Point Beach you've got static.
