Country Music Television Drops Miss America pageant

There's always Lifetime, Oxygen, WE, or even Bravo. Glad CMT came to their senses and found out that the Miss America Pageant didn't belong on a country music channel.

CMT always seemed like an odd venue for the pageant.

Fox could have fun with it. Seriously, I'd let the American Idol producers have a crack at it. Do the show like they do now, get it cut down to a top 10, then let the viewers vote for the winner. Have a results show the second night. I think they'd get big ratings for it.

Great. Then we'd get a female version of Sanjaya. ::)

Viewers are stupid. ;D

Even if you replaced the usual pageant judges with Randy, Paula and Simon, it's an automatic 20 share.

You've obviously never lived in a small Deep South town. In many places, it's up there with high school and college football.

Personally I think it's way past time to give pageants (read: dog shows, except with women) the Viking funeral they deserve. But there are folks whose world revolves around the whole Miss America/Miss USA/Junior Miss culture. The late '90s movie Drop Dead Gorgeous is a good (if exaggerated) illustration on how pageants thrive with small town people.

Yeah, there's still interest. Mark my words, there'll be a lot of women (and, yes, men) who will not allow Miss America to go quietly.

If Fox takes over the broadcast does it become...

Miss America Idol!

and does it take 6 weeks or more to drop contestants until they crown a winner?

If it was FOX, it would take longer than 6 weeks, more like 26 weeks or so, if they eliminated contestants from several states at a time, since there are 50 states represented, plus the District Of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam. So if FOX took over the pageant, they will milk it over for all its worth. That's why I want to see it on a station like Lifetime, WE, or Oxygen.

The problem isn't pageants. The problem is THIS pageant.
Miss USA/Universe is still doing well on network TV.
Maybe The Donald should take over this one, too.
And maybe they should get some "bad girl" contestants, too.
In high school, you learned some girls would and some wouldn't.
Miss America is all girls who wouldn't - just like the TV news Barbies.

Yawn. Take the Miss America pageant out behind the barn, and shoot it. It is a rotting relic of a bygone era that has no relevance to the 21st Century. Our culture has moved on. Miss America should do a quiet fade to black.

And The Donald can take Miss USA with it, for all I care.

Great - give it to Fox and let Jeff Foxworthy host it. One of the competitions can actually be "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?" ;D

Miss America ain't going to cease and desist anytime soon. After all, they are and have been the Super Bowl of beauty pageants for over eight decades.

As to who'll pick them up next? I'm hoping one of the Turner networks (TBS or TNT, but maybe the latter) will do it.

Jonathan Allen

How about Fox Sports Net?

They could integrate it with SportSouth, and air it on all their RSNs across the country to reach other markets. Rebrand it as "The Best Damn Miss America Ever" and let the "Best Damn" crew host.

And the band played on

Ever seen "Scary Movie"? There's a sketch in it that sends up a beauty pageant as a T&A show.

From what I understand most pageant contestants are suburbanites, not small-town America. "Drop Dead Gorgeous" also flopped badly at the box office.

The only way you get a beauty pageant on national TV now is if the network owns a piece of the action. NBC is a part-owner of Miss USA and Miss Universe.

Just saw that flick this week and I agree 100 percent - if you haven't seen it, it's hilarious.

Hi everyone:

I've got yet another one of my novel (Yet admittedly strange) ideas...

....Put the Miss America on FOX NEWS.

I can just see it now - Bill O'Reilly along with Simon and Paula as the judges (Leave Randy out).

Hey why not? They could run it EVERY WEEKNIGHT @ 11 ET/PT (With a results segment from the night before leading off each show) until a winner is crowned.

And with all the scandals that pageant contestants (sp?) get themselves into, maybe it's about time pageant organizers turn to sophisticated people & the channels they would normally watch to find a winner they (The organizers) won't live to regret declaring the winner.

Thoughts?

Cheers :D

How about putting it on channels with male interest: MTV, ESPN, Spike-TV, TNT or USA Cable. If they ought to do something about Miss America-Give her a total workout: Adding more sexier swimsuits (To show off her big ass), and sluttier evening gowns (to make her more like a ho) In fact, maybe CBS (No longer a part of Viacom), TNT, or FOX make take over coverage of Miss America, and move it back to Atlantic City.

As a male attractive to beautiful women, I don't really care about the Miss American Pageant. I have not watched the pageant since the late 1980s. I don't think CMT was the right network for this event in the first place. Some may say that moving an annual special event from broadcasting to cable is a downgrade, but the Miss America Pageant has been losing viewers in recent years. Now, moving to another network for the third time in four years is not a good sign.

Maybe, they could cry for another shot on ABC! Since the network is attracting more female viewers and has been improving ratings since Fall 2004, it would not hurt the Miss American Pageant organization to kick on their door! I think Oxygen, Lifetime, WE, the CW or even Ion TV should be considered as well!
