Couple of questions/discussions: WMBF 32 and WNKT 107.5

When is WMBF TV 32 in Myrtle Beach signing on? It's been a long time since the talk started of this station signing on as the new NBC affiliate. So, what's up?

When WMBF signs on, this will be the end of a tradition of going to MYB and watching WIS definately. I would assume the Florence area will still be covered by WIS considering WMBF looks to be right outside of the fringe area of Flo-town.

Was the WNKT move actually granted by the FCC for a cp to eastover or what? What is the timing window of a sign-on?

With 107.5 moving away from Charleston, I can automatically assume that maybe 107.7 will become available for Chucktown? Also, the Myrtle Beach area will easily receive 107.5 out of Wilmington, NC unlike now where it seems to be a battle of the signals in some spots.

107.5 will also be interesting for Columbia as there is the suspense of what format will sign on. Country, urban, AC are all locked.

Discussion anyone?

Well, I can assure you if 107.7 signed on in Charleston (if the FCC approved it) it would be a total crap class A signal directional in all directions but the ocean.

107.9 in MYB is a class C2,
107.9 in Hilton Head is a C2,
107.5 in Columbia will be a C2 (I think)

I think the interference contours would probably overlap for even a class A. If it isn't, expect a signal that really would be about as marketable as a 500w AM daytimer.

I'm not sure about WMYB, but I remember hearing late spring/early summer. It would probably not be shown on Florence cable b/c WIS has a better signal there.

For COL changes by app for minor change of a licensed facility, there is a 60 day comment period before the FCC will act. The WNKT app was filed at the end of January, so the earliest you will see a grant would be the end of March.

Given that Gamecock Sports are spread out throughout the Citadel Columbia cluster, I would place an educated guess that 107.5 would be male oriented and would consolidate all the current Gamecock Sports broadcasts, at minimum.

Good point DudeFan, or possibly we can go further with what you said and 107.5 could be an active rocker that carries Gamecock Football, kinda like some of the rock stations in bigger cities that carry NFL games. 107-5 the rooster? LoL

If WMBF-TV does indeed sign on as a NBC affil, you can be sure they will be on Florence cable and every other Time Warner system in the market. What do you think the "F" in WMBF stands for? Of course, WMBF will want to be competitve throughout the market and will work a deal with T-W. They will also take the place of WIS on Direct and Dish. For all except the small minority that watches OTA, WIS (and co-owned WECT) will be a thing of the past in the Florence-Myrtle Beach DMA. On a side note, I am assuming WMBF will be digital only. Also, I would bet it will be a "virtual" local station, programed from Columbia with only a sales office and small news bureau in MYB.

Is this channel 32 signed on already?
I only ask because tonight I saw the Charlotte Bobcats on channel 32, kind of fuzzy, when the OT game was over and I chanced back by, I saw Jay Leno. I'm near Raleigh, NC.

I can't figure out another channel 32 NBC channel off the internet yet...

From what I've heard; they havn't even began to construct the new tower out near MYB.

Supposed to be around 1,300 ft tall....somewhere I read.

Yes, but according to recNet.com, WMBF-TV has just recieved a CP to build a digital station with tx site just west of Conway with a 600 ft tower and only about 85kw. Sounds like Raycom is going on the cheap---as I said before, I bet studio and master control will be in Cola will minimal presence in MYB.

It is interesting to note that the new 107.5 (40kw.)will share the tower with 93.9 in Eastover. Maybe Miller Communications did find a buyer?

According to RECnet.com the modifications WMBF-TV filed for in Jan, were for digital facilities. They asked for a MUCH lower power from a site near Conway, not Socastee. I'm thinking they will go ahead and go on the air as a digital only station. With their analog channel 32, they would not be recieved OTA in Florence/Darlington/Hartsville, not to mention Lumberton/Laurinburg (due to WUNU/31 there) so they might have decided to go ahead with digital, since they will have to rely on cable and satelite anyway.
