Court TV seeking to televise Station Nightclub Trial, will WHJJ or WPRO do the same?

According to the Pro-Jo. Court TV is seeking Permission to air the trial live.I guess if all goes to plan the trial will begin May 1st.Court TV has Fed_ Exed permission to ATY Gen Patrick Lynch and the Dederians.
If this happens do you think WPRO and WHJJ will air the trial in a so called gavel to gavel or do buddy deal with a trailer and John Carpillio running around like chicken with his head cut off.

Could this also be a reason that WHJJ has gone back to being local all day so they could send thier Talk show hosts downtown to broadcast live during the trial. Remember now the weather will be warm at that piont.

Now that I think about it would it be in WHJJ's best interest to even do this since they are one of the defendants.

Could WHJY or WHJJ jocks and hosts be served papers?Can you picture Geoff Charles on the witness stand for anything.
Since he was one of more out spoken jocks I picture him sitting in court with updates on the FM side.

I would think there is a good chance that WPRO-630 and/or WHJJ-920 would broadcast the Station Nightclub trial live on a gavel-to-gavel basis.

It's shaping up to be the biggest trial in Rhode Island history, and I expect that it will be covered live, start-to-finish and gavel-to-gavel on both radio and TV not only in Providence, but probably in Boston as well.

From a practical point, wall to wall coverage won't happen on radio, and probably not for long periods on local TV either. I would think that Court TV is the best bet for gavel to gavel coverage.

For Radio:

1. Audience nightmare; An entire trial on radio would be unlistenable. And besides, despite the magnitude of the tragedy and the scope of its impact, I anticipate a lot of the testimony will be very technical in nature.

2. Programming nightmare; commercials, news, weather, traffic...taking breaks from the trial for other programming elements defeats the purpose of the coverage, doesn't it? And we all know neither Citadel or CC is going to sacrifice revenue.

More likely scenario: Broadcasting what are considered most compelling parts of the trial. (ie) Opening statements, testimony from certain witnesses, closing arguments, verdicts. Radio could simply pick up the TV pool audio feed.

Only my opinion. Would be interested in other thoughts.

Interesting question, You can bet Violet will have a major say.
It will probably be 'highlites', if there is such a thing, on the
daily events.
It would be the most morbid of radio ,gavel to gavel!

I am figuring all though I am not there.WPRO will be the first to set up shop in a trailor with highlites like with the Buddy trial.
WHJJ will probably do something but tell me if I am wrong here.Does nt WHJJ and WHJY have to be careful of what they say because they are defendants in I want to say the cival part of the case.So called promoting the concert, Dave Kane,Mike Gonsalves.etc.So even if they(WHJJ) would be covering it.Would nt Arlene and people comentating on it on the air have to be careful of what they say about the case.Unlike WPRO who is not a defendant and you would more than likely get more from WPRO than WHJJ.


I'm sure the CC stations jocks and Talk show hosts don't want to have something they say today on the air come back and bite them tomarrow.
Do you know what I mean?

whjj have been talking about this since it happened. granted it was an whjy event but whjj must cover it to have some credibility here. also, both stations had trailers during the cianci trial.. i dont know about wpro but clearchannel has a few survivors who are employed still at the radio station. (you hear one of them almost every night) I think when it comes to clear channel they should talk about it for the sake of the ones they've lost and ones who are still working there. but i bet wpro will have the upperhand because the news department isnrt what it used to be over at whjj. i hope helen glover wont be talking about her cooking segments & howie bart wont be discussing how many people hate bush during the trial coverage..

>If the comment was offesive I apoligize.You should know if you heard him during the Cianci trial you would know what I have ment to say.I dont see how my comment and the death of his son go hand and hand.
