Cox Media Group Announces that WPXI GM Kevin Hayes is also the GM of WHIO-TV Dayton

Keep in mind this GM according to Cox Media has to oversee two different media markets. This is similar we seen in other places like the PD of KSFO San Francisco also oversees KABC-AM Los Angeles on the Cumulus thread or in the regional threads of CBS when that GM oversees CBS Bay Area and CBS Sacramento at the same time.

The responsibilities of individual TV station Presidents/GMs have been greatly reduced in recent years. They used to wield considerable power, but as station groups become larger and management becomes more concentrated at the highest levels, their roles have been greatly diminished. They may still drive the bus, but the routes the bus takes are decided at a corporate, not station level.

Besides, with staff being continually whacked in favor of automation and AI, there are fewer actual humans to manage.

We saw this with Audacy and their regional VP’s/Market Managers where they do manage more than 1 region and their list is here. This is an excerpt of some of the management changes at Audacy inc radio operations. It won’t shock anybody if there are more places with this type of management setup is taking place on TV operations like Nexstar, Gray, Scripps and Sinclair all for the same reasons.
