Cox Media Group, is asking The FCC for a waiver to change the callsign of CBS affiliate WTEV, and Fox affiliate WAWS to WFOX, what do you guys think of this? Good idea or bad idea?

Cox Media Group looking to change the call signs in Jacksonville

There is something missing in this story. Is the waiver to allow two stations to have the same call letters? Doesn't sound right to me.
WFOX is held by a classic rocker in the Connecticut suburbs, while WJAX is on a college-owned AM in Jacksonville, thus they have to get a waiver rather than trying to pay off Connoisseur Media and the college to get use of the letters in -TV form. I'd assume if the waiver doesn't work they'll have to pay up.
It's only the Fox station that might change its callsign.
It's both stations; WAWS would be WFOX, WTEV would be WJAX. As mentioned above though they have to either get a waiver for the change from the FCC or pay off the stations to get permission to do so if the FCC denies. And there's always the possibility the FCC could deny the WTEV/WJAX change to avert confusion with WJXT.
No, whoever has the calls first would need to give permission.
You could have WFOX (AM), WFOX-FM, WFOX-TV (and WFOX-LP?) all in different markets with different owners. But the station with "WFOX" first would have to grant permission to the others.
WJAX is being sold. But I guess whoever buys it would have to give permission.
