Cox snaps up 97.1 Bradenton/102.5 New Port Richey translators.

According to RadioInk, CMG has agreed to pick up the CP's for W246CY (97.1 FM) in Bradenton and W273CP (102.5 FM) in New Port Richey, from Circuitwerkes. No shame in this new translator game!

If I was Cox, I'd place those translators on the air in a dummy load ( or a cheap 1 bay in the backyard) inside a dog house.

Those are just too close and only interference can be the result. The FCC is overcrowding an already problematic situation.

Jeff in Sa-ra-so-ta!

Now that the LPFM window is over, translators, including these two, can be moved around with greater ease. I have no idea what Cox's plan is for them, but they wouldn't need to buy them if they were just going to force them off the air.

What makes this interesting is Hal Kneller just did a geocast presentation at last months SBE meeting would be neat to see if Cox tries to use these to fill in some of the "holes" in coverage. Which would not be able if these were on the air.

Very interesting.

97.1 could benefit with a South Pinellas/North Manatee translator (might shore up the spotty signal in St. Petersburg...if the tech mentioned above works as advertised, and they still manage to protect WINK 96.9 to the south).

Not sure where 102.5 needs a boost (biggest FM signal in the state, IIRC). Perhaps to the north? Given that signal's strength into New Port Richey, a 102.5 translator there seems completely useless, (as WHPT would no doubt step all over it) unless Cox can use it themselves.

Interesting indeed.
