Cox's WDBO/Orlando rebrands as "News 96.5"...is this WSB's future direction?

Cox's WDBO/Orlando rebrands as "News 96.5"...is this WSB's future direction?

http://radioinsight.com/blog/headlines/81789/wdbo-rebrands/

Would dropping the "talk" from the branding be a good thing?

Does it make the WDBO sound better? [EDIT]

Would it hurt WSB by making them sound closer to what All News is doing?

Or, does the average listener even care?

Branding is subjective. Back in the 90s, WGST branded itself as "Newsradio" and "The News Monster"; no mention of "talk" even though most of the airTIME was talk.

Branding is to leave an impression: "If I want news, I can always go to WDBO and get the latest info. If I want ALL news 24/7, well, that's another matter." ;)

Good point -- I'm betting "YES". Has Cox nationally or regionally undergone management change? This wave of re-positioning isn't minor -- makes me think something big has happened high up, and that old guard (and not just the talkers themselves) have either walked out or gotten kicked out.

Branding doesn't have to be accurate. WSB can call itself anything it wants, so if "NEWS 750" gives the Cox marketing guys a lump in their jeans, that's what it will be.

Does it make the WDBO sound better since many think Conservative talk is vile and hateful?

Would it hurt WSB by making them sound closer to what All News is doing?

Why should they be concerned about 106.7 at this point? It's not drawing significant numbers.

And WDBO sounds second rate these days. Drove through the other day (I live just outside the Tampa Bay area these days) and when listening wondered where the quality I used to associate with WDBO went. WSB (other than mornings) has gone downhill. WOKV is hanging in and may be the best of the bunch.
