Coyotes Games to be Broadcast on Subchannel of KNXV and KGUN

It's official, Coyotes games will be going to Scripps Sports on KNXV 15.2 in Phoenix, KGUN 9.2 in Tucson, and alternate between KUPX Utah 16 and KSTU 13.2 in Salt Lake City. The Channel is on Cox Cable. Not on Dish or DirecTV.

So apparently Cox Channel 95 hasn't been upgraded to HD yet. So after a lot of people were complaining about the poor picture quality, they just made the announcement during the broadcast that the game is now being simulcast on CW61 because of the poor quality on Cox. Just checked CW61 over-the-air and it's playing the Coyotes game.

15.2 has had a few cutout issues during the game, although the picture quality in HD seems fine. The sound quality seems better on 61, however. I'm watching both channels OTA, so I have no idea about Cox's problems.

61 returned to regular programming, with the final scene and closing credits of Two and a Half Men when the game ended just before 7. 15.2 briefly started Three's Company, but switched to a post-game show after about 10 seconds of the intro. Apparently there still are bugs yet to be worked out.

I was watching 21/2 Men tonight on 61.1 when it abruptly switched to the Coyotes game. No problem with that so I stayed. They had several video issues but no audio problems that I could detect. Got tuned in time to see the Coyotes tie it up then win it in the shootout. What's not to like? Didn't stay for the post game show.

Game was not listed on my go-to listing site (On TV Tonight site).

Yeah I noticed the Three's Company switch over and then back to the post game. Quite a few little mistakes to work out.

It's the first Coyotes game I've seen in probably a year. Now that they have better players and games are free OTA I'll be watching often.

It wasn't on either of mine (The Score phone app, and another generic "TV guide" (no relation to the real one) app), either. The KMVP Arizona Sports website finally deleted Bally Sports and now shows it as "ABC 15.2." This may take awhile to get right.  😱

I don't think Channel 15 has aired local sports since the early '80s, when they were an independent. They had the Suns and Giants/Firebirds early-on, but ON-TV ended that.

I know channel 3 aired a few Coyotes games a few years ago and part of me thinks 61 also aired a few Coyotes games. AZTV also aired Coyotes games too a little longer ago (10 years?). Besides the Coyotes I remember 45 carrying some Suns games but that's been awhile too. That all that I can recall off the top of my head of Phoenix TV local sports game broadcast.

When 3 and 61 were co-owned, both stations aired Coyotes games, going back to when the team moved here from Winnipeg in 1996, as well as D'backs games when they started up in 1998. Sports ended when management decided to make KTVK a female-centric "Place With More Stuff." 2007 was the last year for their D'backs games.

I don't remember them airing sports at all, other than Dodgers and Giants games pre-1998 when they were still KUSK. They had to stop when the D'backs started up.

Channel 45 aired Suns games for many years, but it has been a long time.

They had the Suns between 1986 and 1988, but the team was quite bad and the ratings were poor. The Suns went to 45 that year and ended up there for a long time.

Looks like AZTV had the Coyotes for just 2 season and 20 games per season. Link

The real question is now, where do the Diamondbacks end up?

I would hope that MLB isn’t short-sighted enough to keep the Dbacks DTC-only, but MLB unfortunately has a very long track record of being incredibly short-sighted on these things.

It's not MLB. It's D'backs ownership. I'll be absolutely shocked if Ken Kendrick signs with an OTA station.

KNXV didn't have a network of translators for the north country at that time either. That didn't occur since they signed on their first translator in Flagstaff in 1991. I think KUTP may have had a translator before them.

News reports mentioned Kendrick was happy with the post-Bally ratings, despite being DTC and cable/DirecTV only. I can see them try to sell a number of games to OTA TV, but not the entire season like the Suns and Coyotes have.
