Coyotes Games to be Broadcast on Subchannel of KNXV and KGUN

Looks like Scripps has decided to air tonight's Coyotes game on KASW CW61. Considering that it's most likely because of the complaints about the Cox Channel 95 not being HD last week, now the question is will they black it out on other Pay TV providers such as DirecTV and Dish who don't have deals to air Coyotes games yet.

I know it was a last minute deal, but Scripps sure doesn't have their ducks in a row for covering the Coyotes.

On the up side, I guess it would be a good idea for Scripps to bring new viewers into Coyotes games from 61 while also promoting the 15.2 as the new broadcaster. Viewers will tune into their Friends and Two and a Half Men reruns and instead find Coyotes on.

They are now promoting tonights game as being on 15.2 and 61.

KNXV didn't have a network of translators for the north country at that time either. That didn't occur since they signed on their first translator in Flagstaff in 1991. I think KUTP may have had a translator before them.

KNXV: October 6, 1989.
KUTP: February 1, 1990.

Probably able to do that since it's a 4pm PT start and doesn't interfere with CW programming. Remember—the reason they're not on 61 the whole year is CW preemptions.

Interesting. Apparently the TV listings page on the CW61 website shows they will also air tomorrow's Coyotes game and Post-game show despite running into CW primetime programming.

I would hope that MLB isn’t short-sighted enough to keep the Dbacks DTC-only, but MLB unfortunately has a very long track record of being incredibly short-sighted on these things.
I think the odds of being DTC-only are near 100%. What other choice do they have for 162 games, now that there is no longer an RSN serving the Phoenix market?

Channel 45 is available, if Kendrick and Fox are willing.

TV stations' carriage negotiations with satellite/cable are all-or-nothing. 61 is on Dish and Direct regardless of what programming it's carrying, so if the Coyotes are on 61.1, they'll be seen by satellite viewers.

They just made an announcement during the game that CW61 is where to find the Coyotes games this season. Now the question is was that announcement a mistake or has Scripps worked out something with Nexstar to postpone CW programming as most Coyotes games will be at 7 PM after this week.

It's airing on both channels tonight.

Yep, and I bet it probably continue that way. Coyotes Twitter named off all the Pay TV providers tonights game is on because of it being on CW61. Makes me wonder if Coyotes games brings in more Pay TV viewers than CW programming. If they do continue to air air Coyotes games on CW61, could Scripps be giving up possible retrans fees for 15.2 with Coyotes for near future in order to get the game to more Pay TV viewers now.

Not on KASW? They're HD for all their other programming, right?
For some reason their simulcast on KASW 61 is lower quality than 15.2. It looks like they are feeding the main game feed to 15.2, adding in the commercials there, and then feeding 15.2 in to 61. I think that is what they are doing and it's losing quality somewhere in there. I noticed yesterday at 3:30 PM on 61.1 they cut to Antenna TV for a second and then it cut to the Coyotes Inside Access show. So that's why I think they are feeding 15.2 feed to 61.

That's a Cox problem, not a Scripps problem.

Putting the games on 61 also allows for streaming. Last I checked, Antenna TV doesn't allow streaming. As long as they are on 61, YouTube TV is allowed to carry the games.
