COZY TV, MeTV, Antenna TV, RTV, This TV, ION network, MYTV network

How many syndicated repeats and classic channels do we need? Why can't we have another TV network that does not do repeat syndication or classic television?

MyNetwork TV isn't really a Classic TV network anyway as it's more of a channel for more recent fare compared to the diginets. Ditto with ION except they've also originated some shows too (Nothing noteworthy but still)

As to the question why so many Classic TV channels, well when you consider that TVLand & GSN (Which were both supposed to fill this void) have basically become dumping grounds for CBS failures & game shows which EVERYONE ELSE thought were crappy (And RIGHTFULLY SO) abandoned the genre & left it for dead, is it any wonder why it's so successful in the world of digital subnets?

Add to that the fact that virtually little else has been able to captivate enough audience attention to pay the bills right now (LiveWell & Untamed Sports comes to mind here) & that's another reason why we have so many Classic TV digital subnets now

As for ThisTV, it has basically become more of a general entertainment network than a Classic TV network. In other words, think of FX but without the umbilical cord that is cable. Kinda cool if ya ask me (DISCLAIMER I don't watch any of the programs on there as none of them capture or captivate my interest but still :D )

JMO.....

Cheers & 73 :D

I prefer classic TV to what's on prime time now! That's fer sure.

Ion isn't a classic TV network by any stretch.

I actually forget Ion is a network. I think of them as more of a cable channel since I've always gotten them on Dish and never via a local affiliate anywhere I've lived (actually I think I did in Raleigh but the signal was horrible).

My ION station is almost 50 miles away, licensed to New London, CT! That would be WHPX-TV channel 26, with a transmitter in Montville, CT. The old independent then PAX channel 26 was usually watchable in the analog days. It was Springfield, MA (closer, by the way) that I never could get properly. As for Cozi TV, I really haven't watched too much of it yet, except to establish that it was on the air. I receive them via WVIT-TV 30-2 of New Britain/Hartford (transmitter on Rattlesnake Mountain in Farmington, CT).

ION did go through a period where they were running shows from the 70's and 80's. (Were they still going by i at that time?) At that time it looked like they might be going to possibly become a channel to compete with Nick at Nite or TV Land, but they didn't stay with it for long. They even did an online survey of what viewers wanted to see, but that was totally ignored. It probably lasted one season at best, and then it was probably  about the time they started to change over to their current format of crime shows. I wish that they had continued with classic TV, but they apparently are doing better now with their current format.

MNTV is similar to ION's current format, except for only 2 hours in prime time, and I wouldn't consider either to be a classic TV network now.

The only classic show that interested me on This TV was the original Outer Limits, which was always on extremely early mornings, so I didn't get to see it. They always were more movies than anything (like a cheaper version of AMC) and here again I wouuldn't consider them a classic TV network.

As for the real classic TV networks, from looking at their schedule I'd consider Me TV the best, even though I only get to see it on weekend late nights for the most part, thanks to the sorry treatment they get from WBBJ in Jackson, TN. I'm hoping that Me TV will either force WBBJ to go to a full subchannel or move to WJKT in Jackson.

Antenna TV is really the only channel I can get all the time since they come in on Charter Cable from WREG in Memphis. I'd consider them the next best, although most of what I like is on Sundays (Barney Miller and WKRP) or late night (Alfred Hitchcock, Burns and Allen, and Jack Benny). Once they change their schedule after the first of the year to where there are 2 hour blocks of Barney Miller and WKRP during the week I'll probably watch them more, although I wonder what they're going to on Sunday nights. I agree with another post (possibly in another thread) that they need to cut back on the Norman Lear shows on weeknights. Sanford and Son is the only one I'd want to keep.

I only got to see RTV on trips to IL during the time they were more like Me TV and liked it at that time, but they have become probably the worst classic TV network now. I don't know if anyone near me even carries it now.

I don't know if I'll get to see Cozi TV any time soon, but from what I've read about it here, they sound like they might be better than RTV, but not as good as Me TV or Antenna TV.

Seems the subchannel nets with classic TV only have so many shows to choose from, plus the rights to programming change. 6 months on MeTV, then it shows up on RTV, etc. There's still no Antenna TV affiliate nor Cozi in Central Arkansas. Pax/I/I(o)nfomerical left the local Central AR airwaves in 2005, and never missed. When PAX was on locally, 18 of 24 hours of programming were infomercials, or 5th tier gospel-huxters.

Actually it's Cozi not Cozy TV. I wonder if Cosi, the restaurant chain, is aware of this Cozi network. Seems too similar in name; nothing Cosi can do about it but it might annoy them.

Me and Antenna have the best lineups. My and ion aren't the same kind of networks as the others.
Cozi may be better than RTV.

Will agree here. My and Antenna are doing it best. While I prefer sitcomes to westerns, I understand the appeal of both.

Possible additions: Room 222, The "later" Dick Van Dyke Show, (the one that aired around 1970). And Love, American Style. Pretty spicey for the era.

Yeah you're right. ION is more like a hybrid cross between ABC Family, USA Network & TNT (Again minus the umbilical cord that is cable) than anything else

Well, it's not a cable channel since Time Warner doesn't even offer it.

There was a Pax affiliate in Charlotte. But even when it still was Pax, they did a poor job. "Candid Camera" was the one show I saw. Yet no one would bother to offer us the programming. It would probably not be in my package, but still ...

Charter Cable in Jackson, TN shows the national ION feed, so they apparently they have a feed available for cable systems where they don't have a local station, like CW does.

Aside from a graphic with an hourly station ID, I see nothing local about WHPX-TV (ION) channel 26 of New London, CT (Hartford/New Haven DMA).
