Cumulus/Citadel to 92.1 & 102.3: You Are The Weakest Links, Goodbye!

Can anybody say K-LOVE? This Christian group has been buying spin-offs. They just bought two Clear Channel Class A's in the Delmarva market.

And they wouldn't even need to change the WWKL calls!

This is true! So....let's say that 92.1 and 102.3 would find a buyer such as the K-LOVE people, who would in turn change the formats totally. Would the HOT 92 and RED 102.3 formats be worth moving elsewhere. HOT to 106.7, RED to 93.5 or vice versa. With the X soon to be in their stable, they might want to blow up 93.5. They also are probably looking at 106.7, since it could take away from WINK 104's listenership...even though 106.7 isn't setting the world on fire.

Have noticed the playlist of 106.7 going progressively "Hot". I think
***-Cit (or whatever they'll call themselves) would love to torch both 99.3 and 96.9 from the flamethrower in E-town. As for "Red",
I'm not so sure they're going to be quick to move it to a new stick,
unless it's on an HD2 signal somewhere. I think they'll have problems if they dump either 105.7 or 93.5 formats.

I doubt very much that the X or 106.7 will get blown up. TPA does well and so does the X. I would assume some personnel changes at both of these stations,(meaning the X and 106.7) but nothing wholesale. And ***/Cit? really dude? Please tell me you're kidding. Cumulus BOUGHT OUT Citadel. Not a merger.

I also doubt the X or 'TPA will see much changes outside of a couple of personnel. 2 viable products. 106.7? Probably. To what is up for speculation. Lite AC? Don't have one of those around here. How about bringing back the old Z 107 and go after BOB and WGTY? Too much country already around here? Ok, how about a real News/Talk, much like TOP' in DC and crush WHP? Too expensive? How about a real Classic Hits? Collateral SOX' damage? OK, umm, that's all I got. Thoughts?

Country back on 106.7 makes sense....except that they have WIOV. You could target that format to Harrisburg and York, but the fact remains, it could do damage in Lancaster. WIOV has always done well in Lancaster and Reading...but has done very little in Harrisburg and York. Because of 106.7's tower location, Lancaster can not be ruled out. If they want to get into the Country game, they'll have to do it on a Harrisburg or York stick, to protect their Lancasster investment. WSOX does better in Lancaster than in York. Maybe put WSOX's Classic Hits format on 105.1.....and put WIOV's Country format on 96.1. There are alot of shuffling possibilities to consider. I believe Cumulus will protect WIOV. As far as news talk, unless Cumulus puts it on one of their York sticks, WHP will block them from getting the "top tier' talk shows, in fact...they may be able to also block them on the high power York sticks.

I see WARM reverting back to it's original AC. I also see 106.7 flipping to rythmic chr.Cumulus will want a chr to protect WINK.
As far as 106.7, that will give them presence in Lancaster (Think old Hot 105.7) which will accomplish 2 things there. One, will erode LAN's numbers and protect WIOV in the top spot. Two, it will give the sales staff in Lancaster another station to sell. Just speculation, but seems the most likely. 106.7's current format has no staying power. Since 92.1 and RED will go into a trust (Volt radio) whatever that is, they will likely be automated whatever they turn to. 92.1 could go country and do well in the Lebanon Valley alone. I'm sure the folks at Country Gold, would be interested in the RED property.

Ciumulus is acquiring the Citadel 24/7 networks. I'd expect both Red and Hot to end up with programming from the bird.

WARM is the softest AC in the area right now, so what would they revert back to? And wouldn't that hurt WSOX?

As much as I would hate to see a signal wasted on this type of format, I'm quite surprised the Harrisburg market doesn't have a satellite Christian format.

why would that be a waste of a signal? very few Christian stations in the area and getting the gospel across on a strong signal would be great!!

Absolutely right...it certainly would not be a waste of a signal
as some of the most profitable stations in this country are broadcasting Christian programming. In fact, Salem has made
a pretty successful group out of it. WDAC in Lancaster is one
of the most successful in terms of both listenership and profitability
in the Lancaster Market. Considering the amount of long form teaching
programs and syndicated Christian networks available it would also
be very economical to operate.

Warm may be "the softest" Ac in the area, but it is far from an AC. There was a time when they wouldn't even play Aerosmith. Now I hear Third Eye Blind, Barenaked Ladies. It's hardly soft rock. And no I don't believe it hurts SOX. SOX is more oldies based hits. That area (although not my taste) needs a Rod Stewart, Jon Secada, Bryan Adams, Elton ...Station. Those artists were very popular in the 90's. But, the other dude said it best, eventually they will all be bird fed. With the current state of those stations, and lack of personality, it makes no sense to keep either of them live. Cumulus just paid a shload to acquire Citadel, obviouslt there will be personnel changes at Citadel, but expect more cuts at Cumulus also.

So 102.3 is being returned to Carlisle where it belongs. For $405,000?!!! That is a bargain price, even for a Class A. So goes the idea of making a two-station simulcast of 92.1 and 102.3 into a full-market operation. If they're willing to unload these FMs at those kind of prices, might one of the owners in Lebanon (or perhaps WPDC in E-town) pick up 92.1?

Would have been GREAT to see Bruce at WHYL get 102.3 back. Now will Swidler get rid of his translators? Will this be a WIOO-FM? Stay tuned! (Ask for a raise now Ray lololol)

The Truth: No changes will be made. Everyone says it, but we really mean it. Red 102.3 does quite well and as a (mostly) current Country station its a perfect combo with Country Gold FM & AM in a county with a very large base of Country listeners. Harold and Eric are taking the "It ain't broke, lets not try to fix it" approach. Very smart, IMHO.

It's nice to see that the local ownership still gets it. I certainly see their point. Good luck to them. It wilol be interseting to see what TPA goes for. The people that own the AM country station in Lebanon should buy it. Like I said, never too much country in that area.
