Cumulus Goes Belly Up In Louisville. Is Indy Next?

"funny how people think shutting down 93.9 in louisville will help with the upgrade for 93.9 Indy. Whats delaying the Indy Upgrade is the Ma and pop relgious station in terre haute refusing to move to 93.7 to clear way for the upgrade of 93.9 indy. i guess They want money from cumulus to move and Cloudy is refusing to pay up for said move of one dial click" -

Mike's correct - there's nothing further to be gained from Louisville going dark. Susquehanna gained all they could for the Indy 93.9 signal already from the original purchase of this AM/FM and the changes they made down south.

I would be interested in any additional information verifying Chris Wheat's departure from Shadeland, if in fact that's true.
Just watch the front door on Monument Circle. That'll tell the story.

Chris Wheat wasn't a lifer at Shadeland...maybe monument circle won't open the door. If he is gone they have to start looking for a leader. If he is gone maybe they don't want a leader?

I hope CW is still there if he wants to be. He is a nice guy and I enjoyed working for him. I hope he isn't being threatened with his job in front of the staff like another great Market Manager was.

That building was once full of great people who succeeded by treating people with respect. If Chris is gone, the remaining number drops 1 notch closer to zero. Sad stuff...

Why can't we get an answer to mouseman's question? Is there anyone left in the
building who can answer? Hello! Anyone home??????

The really funny thing about all of this is that, once Cumulus took control of the Indianapolis Susquehanna cluster, 93.9 in Indy hasn't been worth a damn either [which makes this Louisville situation even more damning]. There's been so much money spent upgrading that signal for Indianapolis, yet no programming that's amounted to anything. The current I-94 produce barely generates a 1.0 share in some demo's but mostly has no marketable audience. So, on top of all the money Cumulus has lost in Louisville poorly operating the AM/FM combo, they're losing more with all the money that's been pouring into the 93.9 property in Indy - which is still bleeding - that they were making room for.

It's against my nature to root for someone to fail. But if the big 3 Cs were to disappear from the face of the earth tomorrow, I would not lose a night's sleep. I keep thinking the banks will finally push them over with these debt payments they have to make. But it seems like the banks just keep bending over an lubing up for them. When do we get to the point that the equity isn't worth the debt anymore?

The re-structuring of the financials at these companies when they are taken back private really precludes any of them having any financial hardship for the foreseeable future. Taking these large "publics" private again [like Emmis is trying to do now] re-structures their horribly leveraged companies, cleaning up the big money messes they've created from being bad business operators. Big bank note holders have their debt turned into equity positions; small public stock holders lose their investments. The operator rises from the ashes to continue on their merry way.
Not really sure we'll ever witness anyone at the top of these large groups completely failing, and seeing first hand what they've done to so many others [who've lost jobs] along the way.

No, to make the upgrade to 93.9 in Noblesville/Fishers/Lawrence the Seymour station at 93.7 was downgraded once or twice and then eventually relocated to Sellersburg at 93.9.
My beloved WQKC/Seymour site (which I built from the ground up in the Spring of 1992) was downgraded once from 25KW/700' Non directional to 25KW/700' Directional with the null toward 93.9 in Indy. The next downgrade happened when it was shut off & moved to Louisville...pardon me, I meant Sellersburg.
(Freetown) (yes its big enough to be called a town)
It may be cheap, but I wouldn't call it free :)

Just saw on the CareerBuilder.com site that Cumulus has job postings under "marketing" and "sales" for both sales reps and a Sales Manager for WFMS and WJJK...Hmmm, so maybe Herb really is the only one left?

I thought Chris Wheat was also the WFMS sales manager and Michelle Kiefer managed WJJK/WRWM? Didn't know that either of them had left. Sounds like the advertised position could be a fit for an expert at newfangled radio sales like Steve Hartley.

To be a CMLS sales rep, just follow CSOS and you'll be a KAM in no time!
