CXR Trust Given Until February 15, 2022 To Sell WSUN & WPYO

About a week away now - what happens in the event CXR can’t/doesn’t find a buyer? I can’t believe they’d turn the licenses in, somebody has to be interested.

Isn’t SBS interested? I’d imagine SBS would be getting two stations at flea market prices.
It would be a steal for SBS because they’ve gotten themselves to a point where they have no other option if SBS is still interested which I’m sure they are.

If SBS wanted to spite Cox for all of this mess, they could flip 95.3 to go head on with Cox’s 96.5 (which is the whole reason this is an issue anyway).

I’m surprised WPYO isn’t just an automated jukebox at this point.

I don't know how the ratings are for WEOX compared to WPYO, but they might just move Party to 96.5 and recognize they're not going to beat the Spanish experts at iHeart and SBS.

SBS is probably looking to replicate their success in Miami and Puerto Rico in Orlando, especially since Central Florida, unlike other markets, has a 1st generation Islander population.

96.5 doesn’t seem to be doing terribly 6+ (6th place) but I have wondered if Power (12th overall 6+) is going to move there. Doesn’t look like it would make sense ratings wise, but anything SBS and their expertise would likely do on 95.3 would probably impact 96.5 badly since Cox has virtually no experience in the format, so they could at least salvage what they have with Power. But it seems to be doing alright….

97X in Tampa is completely canned and screwed, pretty sure the alt format will just live on a HD channel.

I'm not sure how WOEX does in the demos, but they have a little less cume than WPYO. WPYO may benefit from a large signal, but they have came close to WXXL on such a relatively small signal; don't know what happened since.

Be prepared to say hola to Salsa or Spanish AC (one like WCMQ) on 97.1; that is, if SBS can get the frequency.

Probably not salsa, as 1140 now has pretty much complete coverage of the Hispanic areas of the metro with its three translators on 103.7, 103.5, and 99.5.

CXR appears to be taking this down to the wire for sure. IMO It’s all about 96.5 in Orlando and SBS flipping 95.3 to a format that will kill it off.

It comes down to billing potential IMO for 96.5. Cox knows how CHR has billed on 95.3 and the potential/performance for 96.5 as Spanish, as well as the threat SBS flipping 95.3 is. Cox doesn’t do Spanish language formats generally. Performance aside, they do have a CHR in every one of their Florida markets (97.3 in Miami is less so CHR now). Do they want to give several shares to WXXL or run the table with CHR on 96.5 and just deal with 106.7 instead of trying to fight a Spanish war? Just seems suspicious to me they still have the air staff in place and are acting like nothing is happening on 95.3 and both of these stations HAVE to be sold by next week.

Sorry for hijacking the Tampa board about an Orlando station. 😂

I wouldn't expect any changes at Exitos 96.5. They invested in it when they kicked WDBO back to the translator and the AM side. Power 95.3 personalities could be moved to Hot 101.5 in Tampa Bay since the morning show there just surprisingly just departed last week. I expect 97X to simply be discarded as the format and the demographics are becoming weak and hard to sell. That station has like one talent and no events planned. Seems the writing is on the wall.

You can likely put any thoughts of WOEX going away to bed. Cox posted a position for a new Director of Programming earlier this week.

It’s now being reported that SBS will purchase both 95.3 Orlando and 97.1 Tampa a flip to Spanish is forthcoming at some point

If you wanna read about it just search for it I’m not gonna repost that other sites articles

This news will provide another Latino station for the Orlando area. Orlando has been exploding with Spanish stations lately, especially because of the huge Puerto Rican population in Kissimmee/Osceola county.

Longtime leader Rumba, then Accion came and later came on board Exitos. With SBS coming, that's another station showing up in Spanish. Just wondering what SBS will do with it.
